I have a law degree, newly qualified as a solicitor and I find law utterly boring.... I have thought about a change in career possibly in finance but I'm worried I'm not numerate enough and it could also turn out to be even more inane.

Corporations are a good place to use a law degree & license. Why? Because most corporate officers have a law degree and the degree along with the amount of study that went into getting the degree is actually valued. I have seen lawyers as managers/bosses in just about every department within corporations. The law degree gives you an edge. Also as a corporate employee you leave the world of billable hours and excessive work.

Insurance companies have positions, sometimes called compliance officers, where the employee makes sure that the company is in compliance with all state's insurance laws. There is always working in Human Resources. If you have an financial background, you may be able to get a position in that department.

As lawyers we tend to down play our accomplishments in getting the degree and passing the bar exam. It is probably because of the disrespect that our profession gets. Which makes it hard for us to sell ourselves into a non-traditional job. Not sure how to overcome that, but I do know that there are companies who really value lawyers.

Good luck.

I suggest going into politics or teaching. I know many lawyers who decided to teach political science or government once they were done practicing law, the pay is much less but they've told me the experience is different. You might also consider a career in journalism (especially if you've written on the law review at your law school).

perhaps get a job selling to lawyers. Since you already know the business the learning curve wouldn't be much. There are tons of software companies and other companies such as thomson and lexis that are always hiring for ex attorneys.

This is a shame to come all this way only to find its not for you.
You must go back to basics and find what does it for you! What personality type are you, take a test find out what your strength's are, you may be great at selling, or advertising, so much to choose from, see what excites you, you have nothing to lose. All the best.
