Do not send anyone a copy of your passport, or your passport information (number, expiration date). That should not be done at the initial stages of a job application, and never through the internet. Be very cautious, this sounds really suspicious. By references do you mean former supervisors, company names, telephone numbers?

I have a separate page of personal references that I bring with me to a job interview. If they ask for them I give them a copy of the list and they can feel free to contact them. But I don't give them to someone at the initial stage of the process.

First of all DO NOT send a copy of your passport to anyone! Insofar as references do the following:

5 spaces down from top of paper

REFERENCES (BOLD AND CENTERED)

Name of company
address
phone number
contact person and position

Double space and write the next reference

I would just tell them that references will be provided at the job interview. I do not like the idea of putting someone's name and phone number online as you never know who is actually going to call them.

If the company is legit, they will understand and wait til the job interview for the references.

If this is one of those sites where you can't get by without putting in one reference use Mr. Smith, and for phone number put down 000 000 0000
Add a note at the bottom of your resume that says you will provide references upon request at time of job interview.

Do not provide any personal information. You will supply references upon interview. Some of these sites are scams to get your personal information. Be careful.
