was jobs in restaurants. It was not because I did

How important are performace reviews when looking for a new job??

I've been employed at my company since January '06 and still haven't had a performance review. Right now I'm thinking about quitting and changing the direction of my career. As an entry level position, I'm not sure how important it is for me to have a performance review before leaving. I know there are positives and negatives as to my performance but I'd like to know what my strong points are so I can emphasize them while interviewing for new jobs.

I decided to speak to my supervisor about a review and she told me the company only does them anually. If things work out for me, I definitely don't want to stay here until then just to get a performance review. But then again, 'dI really would like something written because I don't want to use my current supervisor as a reference and end up getting a slap in the face.

Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks!

I just started a job a week ago and in an attempt to make friends I set up a lunch with a coworker several days in advance. At 11:30am that day I get an email from my boss asking if me and other new employee would like to go to lunch...at noon! Not enough time to cancel so I declined, saying I already had lunch plans and that the following day or week would be fine...now I'm wondering if I just should have stood up my lunch date.

I reside in Boston and I've been working for 2 years. I'll be going back to college in Sept '07 and will work through July of this year. Can I get paid social security or some sort of unemployment benefit between July and september or while in grad school? If not why? If so, how does it work and what happens (taxes wise) if I work summer/winter breaks or start working again full time in 2009?
Thanks

I went to a job fair held by my college to start looking for a job for the summer. One job was really interested in me and were desperate for a hostess so they hired me without an interview for the day after. When I accepted the job I had no idea that it would include waking up at 6 AM to get there by 7. I've never worked in a resturant before and I figured I should get into it because I'll make a lot more money. But after only two days of working, with a whopping 7 hours combined, I've already decided I'm not going to be able to stay at this job for the summer. Should I quit immediatly? I don't need their reference. And if I should quit do I need to do it in person or can I do it over the phone or in an email. I've also got plenty of time to find another job this summer.

I'm only a freshman in high school but I really want to work with film & t.v. production and I don't really know how to get started. I would love to work at Fuse but I don't really know what sort of jobs it would offer. I don't have a specific field in mind, I just want to be around that "environment" is the best way I can put it. I know there are a lot of things involved in production. I don't know what they are though. What do you reccommend? What schools offer these things? thanks!

I mean something I don't have to pay 39.95 to get involved in. I mean an actual JOB not filling out offers or surveys. I need something that's going to make me enough money to take care for my family. I am a single mom that would love to have the ability to work from home. I have internet access and knoweledge of the internet. If you could point me in the right direction that would be awesome! Thanks for reading.

I've been working at my current job for over 5 years, it is a small business, one owner, a couple of workers and myself as the only office staff (name it , I do it). However due to lack of growth and low pay I have come to the conclusion that I have to move on to find something that fits me better. I am a college graduate and have to put the degree to use, but in doing so I need to leave so that I can active and aggressively pursue another job. So what's the best way to break the news to my employer?, I plan to give him a month's notice.

Okay, you have just started your new job, and you meet your coworkers...and the one who has been there almost the longest..says to you "Don't worry, my bark is worse than my bite!" what would this mean to you?
How would you deal with this person...from the beginning, even when they started to be really mean, sarcastic, and cold to you...would you stay in that job, try to deal with it and or talk with the co-worker, (if the" talk", didn't take, and you asked your boss for some help, and they did not support you, and supported the other co-worker, what would you do then?)
I have had this happen to me....tried to stick this out....finally left this particular job....but, I wrestled and worried about this job situation for months....didn't know what to do, then finally gave in...and resigned! Wanna know....what would YOU do?!!!!???

Thanks!

i live in australia and from tv shows etc i get the distinct impression that trades are looked down upon as a career choice, just wondering if this is true or a media misrepresentation??
in oz it has been a little looked down upon in the last 20 yrs but mainly in bigger cities.
the govt. used to push uni/college as the preferred option but its starting to turn around because of the short fall of tradespeople, now people qualified with a tradecert are able to earn 140k here as oppposed to school teachers and accountants etc who are earning 65k, is this also starting to happen in the u.s, canada and u.k.?

Anything interesting about them, that most people don't know, would be great.
