Okay, you have just started your new job, and you meet your coworkers...and the one who has been there almost the longest..says to you "Don't worry, my bark is worse than my bite!" what would this mean to you?
How would you deal with this person...from the beginning, even when they started to be really mean, sarcastic, and cold to you...would you stay in that job, try to deal with it and or talk with the co-worker, (if the" talk", didn't take, and you asked your boss for some help, and they did not support you, and supported the other co-worker, what would you do then?)
I have had this happen to me....tried to stick this out....finally left this particular job....but, I wrestled and worried about this job situation for months....didn't know what to do, then finally gave in...and resigned! Wanna know....what would YOU do?!!!!???

Thanks!

I will add that every weekend got to start feeling like an entire summer (of bliss with no horrible co-worker to deal with!!!) just one day,off felt like one weekend day off...(like a sunday)...I had gotten way too stressed out ..and angry inside and out! Good luck to those that have to work with "The Painful Ones"!!!

Years later, I see the "Painful One" on my block...never thought I would! I act really really NICE to her...and say Hello, and how are you!? LOL! (I can't stand her) but, she was sooo shocked, that she nearly dropped her dry cleaning!!!!!
I just really wanted to see her reaction...instead of saying something mean to her...I wanted to get her reaction by turning the tables on her!!!
It felt pretty good!!!
Lord, she was soooo surprised!!! LOL!

I work with that co-worker NOW. When they say that "my bark is worse than my bite" they are making excuses for their bad behavior ahead of time. You did the right thing by leaving, I also have the situation where this employee can be out of line and nobody wants to address it.

It's amazing that employers allow this to go on, but they do. So congratulations on your escape.

Chances are, the person has nothing against you. If they had been employed there for long time, they may just be cranky and losing patience. They are probably a nice person, but work just sucks the life out of you sometimes and it'll show. Their bark is their frustration coming out, their bite is how they really are on the inside (not affected by work).

I have been through this, and you just have to suck it up. You will rarely find a job where everyone around you is cheery, chipper, and perfectly pleasant. And, if you do.... CONGRATULATIONS!!!! This kind of stuff builds character, and thickens your skin. You can't keep running away from stuff, you have to learn to get through it. However, if this person is literally insulting you, or threatening you, then you need to say something, if not to them, then to your supervisor.

Hope this helps!

Every once in a while, you run into another person who is just toxic to you. You try to improve the relationship - you can't. You try to avoid them - but you still have to work with them. You try to have someone else mediate and resolve the problem - they don't. The best and only thing you can really do there is to find another place to be where that person will not be. I have left a job for that reason as well, and it sure feels good to go in to work every morning knowing I don't have to deal with Ms. Toxic Waste. :)

Seems to me you did everything you could. Talked to the person. Talked to the boss. Tried to resolve the situation in every mature adult manner you could. You spend 8 hours a day, or more, on a job, if its a miserable place to be, its just not worth it, even if the money is good. You did the right thing, I would have done the same.

I'm in that situation now. I am sticking it out. The pay is too good to pass up. I just try to ignore the co-worker, or tune him out. Some days its very hard, as we share the same office.

It all depends on if it's a job I could grow in you know advanced.
then I would have stayed and put up with some nonsense but if it was a dead end job.
Then I would have been looking for another job while dealing with this one. I think in life you have to learn to put up with a lot of *** holes in this world and look at it this way your getting a lot of practice

You cannot work like that, no matter what. If someone is that mean, I would've told him/her to go to hell, It felt really good, and she ended up quitting anyway.
