I had an interview this afternoon which I think went pretty well. I am a student and the position was for 30 hours per week. The woman I interview with said she wouldn't want to see me drop down to part time in school, and she might be able to work something out so that I could work just weekends (16 hrs). She asked if that was something I might be interested and I told her I definitely was. She had me meet some one other employee (who is in the same position I applied for) and then at the end of the interview she told me to give her a call in a couple of days if I was interested in the weekend position. My questions are: should I wait 2 days, or just call her tomorrow and should I send her a thank you email? If I send her the email should I also call her, or just do one or the other?

I have been with my current employer for eight years. In those eight years my boss has been very good to me and helped me out when I got into jams financially. I can't imagine any other company possibly doing what this company has done for me. But at the same time, I work with a woman that is almost unbearable at times to put up with. She's moody and is a germaphobe that drives me nuts. She is the largest part of the reason I am looking around for another job.

Recently I found an ad in the local newspaper that matches my experience and skills. It's in my home town and would be closer to my son's school.

What I struggle with now is do I move on because of one coworker that makes my life in the office miserable? I've begun to stand up for myself more often when it comes to dealing with her but should I allow myself to be run off by her? What factors do you suggest I consider in leaving my current job?

Does your P45 show that you claimed benefits?

I'm going for an interview tomorrow, and there is a gap on my CV that I know I'm going to get asked about, and wondered if I can lie, rather than tell the truth!?

The gap is during my pregnancy, when I didn't work because I found it hard to get a job being pregnant, so I claimed jobseekers allowance, and then Income Support until my partner and I moved in together, when my son was a year old. I would rather lie and say that I didn't work because my partner supported me, but I wouldn't want to lie and get found out.

I am a manager at a dealership. One of my fellow managers, and friend, was laid off for poor job performance. He didn't do anything flagrantly wrong, but he just was unable to do the job that we needed here. He was given two weeks severence. He worked her for just under two years.

Our owner is fighting his claim for unemployment. If you are laid off for doing something like sexual harrassment or not showing up on time repeatedly, I could see fighting it because I believe the employer can be end up paying for unemployment for this in PA, but not if he is let go because of job performance.

It just doesn't seem like the right thing to do. I don't think I would if I were in the owner's position - wouldn't feel right.

I could also see if the ex-employee was looking to live off unemployment for a year

Have you ever heard of people in society who kept saying stuff like "c'mon , whatever you do/choose, just DON'T become a musician, or artist. Why? Because these jobs are very unstable, especially with so many musicians/artists newcomers these days, the 'cycle' will end soon,...and that's it! You're gonna be BROKE, ..so artist/musician is NOT LONG-term profitable job/career! " , and thus kept recommend you to do the 'conformist' "Office/factory" rat-race job/career!

I don't know,..but I personally have a serious problem with that mainstream's notion.
Because I've seen that MANY artists/bands who have 'ended' his/her/their cycle, ...usually can STILL make profits, from Solo album/projects, or composing songs for Other artists, or goes into movie-industry,...or even by their "famous-ity" , can EASILY venture-out doing some 'artistic' business that they LIKE.
i mean, these artists aren't just gonna "go back to office / factory-settings" , after their "fame-periods", am I right?

I called in sick at work today in order to do homework. I hardly got any done. My guilt is killing me! I'm not scheduled to work again until Friday (I go to school T and TH). I feel even worse when I think of the money I'm losing. And next week I'm taking days off because my brother and his family are coming down from N.D. to visit.
I'm a good worker and doubt I will be reprimanded about the matter, or even fired. But I can't stop thinking that I should have gone to work!
And soon my mom will be home wondering why I'm not at work!
Has anyone ever been in this predicament? Any advice.

P.S. Sorry to rant, but thanks to those who have listened and responded. And yes, I am about to write the ENGL paper I stayed home to work on.

I'm a mainframe programmer, and I've always been a full-time employee, so I know nothing about being a consultant. If you accept a contract to work in another city, is it your responsibility to find somewhere to live or does the contracting company provide housing? Do contractors typically live out of a hotel room during the week and drive home on the weekends? The whole housing/travel thing sounds like a real hassle.
