I have a last miniute interview this week that came as quite a surprise and booking a day off is out of the question. Do I
A: tell the truth about the intervew to get out of work?
or B: Lie in some way shape or form, and if so what would I say to my current employer?

Sounds like you're gonna have to lie in this case - it'll be worth it if you get the job though! Good luck!!!

I agree with Bella and Gabs.
I don't think you are obliged to tell them why you need the day off. I would not tell a lie, just say an urgent personal matter has come up.
If it is to your advantage to reveal why, ie they feel as if they are going to lose you and might give you a raise or something, then do so.
If you get the job then check your contract for how much warning you have to give your current employer. In fact, check it before the interview so you can tell the new people how soon you can start.
Good Luck

This is where the little white lie comes in to save the day. You tell your employer you have received a letter to attend an urgent appointment. If your employer asks what the appointment is just say that it's personal and you would rather not say. Most people would suspect you have received a letter regarding a hospital appointment, and they will therefore ask no further questions.

Technically, you haven't lied to your employer because you do have an urgent appointment. It is their imagination that has led them to believe it is one of a medical nature.

I'd lie - would'nt hurt to pull a sicky unless you're the only person in to work that day, then i'd probably arrange another day and just say to the hopefully new employer that you can't get the time off work. They'd understand as it was short notice. OR you could ask your current employer just for a few hours off for a 'hospital appointment' - then they might just give you the day off anyway as you never know how long you're going to be in hospitals!!

Ideally, it's best to be honest about this sort of things, most especially if you'll be applying for another job which is related to the one you are doing now, and when it's likely that people you work with now will also know people in the new place.

They are going to be find out anyway, so just be honest.

But if all else fails,

Just go off sick.

Good Luck on your interview!

Its not a matter of the truth or a lie. All your current employer needs to know is that you have an appt that you need to make. Maybe offer to take your lunch earlier or later to accommodate your interview, that way you arnt really missing work?

I think you should ask the person who is giving you the interview could you re-scheduele then if you say its becasue you dont want to let your current employer down and that you prefer to be honest with your current employer that will surely give you a bonus with ur employer-to-be, they my ask you ' did you manage to get the day off work for the interview and you may have to say 'no i lied' then you in no doubt won't get the job you want. honesty is the best policy!
good luck

You don't have to say you have an interview. That's personal.
You can say you need whatever time off, it's a personal and private matter and that you'll return at a certain time after it's sorted.
Don't lie or phone in sick as you might get caught and you'll have a lot to explain.

umm hard one to answer.. does your current employer know you are looking for a new job? If not.. then i wouldn't lie about it per say.. I would just call that morning and tell them you have some un expected business you have to take care of and that you will be in to work as soon as you can.. good luck

Tell them that the time off is for an interview, depending on your job you may well be entitled to time off for hte interview. If you are going to lie tell them it is for a doctor's referral or a dental appointment and take a half day rather than a whole one.

Tell them that you have a hospital or dental appointment that you forgot about which is why you didn't book the day off before. They might call your bluff and ask for proof but the worst thing you can do is tell the truth about where you are going!!
