Does your P45 show that you claimed benefits?

I'm going for an interview tomorrow, and there is a gap on my CV that I know I'm going to get asked about, and wondered if I can lie, rather than tell the truth!?

The gap is during my pregnancy, when I didn't work because I found it hard to get a job being pregnant, so I claimed jobseekers allowance, and then Income Support until my partner and I moved in together, when my son was a year old. I would rather lie and say that I didn't work because my partner supported me, but I wouldn't want to lie and get found out.

Hi i think you only get a P45 when you leave a job with a company, when ive claimed jobseekers I ve never got a P45 from them saying I was unemployed, but if the interviewer is taking a close look at you cv then I suppose he/she will follow dates and notice there was a gap but as for the P45 ive just had to have it as proof of where I was working I think. There is no harm in telling them the truth , but what its wrong in saying that when you where pregnant the first few months were hard for you and you had to leave your job, use this as an excuse until you started to claim jobseeker, then say you then were coping better and wanted to find work so you claimed jobseekers whilst looking for work and then income support when your child was born then you moved in and your partner supported you. Im sure they will understand. Im sure they have seen worse people with a worse CV before than yours. Just make an effort before the interview put on your suit and get there early and Im sure they wont even question you or your answers given.
You can always say what you wher going to say in the first place as if you make a good effort during the interview I dont think they will check up on you.
I hope you get the job and dont be so nervous, you will be great

Employers cannot discriminate against you either for claiming benefits or for taking time out to spend with your baby. Try not to lie at interview stage or on applications as this would be genuine grounds not to give you a job if they find out that you lied.

Yes as far as i know your P45 shows where your income came from even when you claim job seekers...Best to be honest with an employer and get off to a good start as they will appreciate honesty...good luck

Why do you feel the need to lie if you were pregnant, at a certain stage you would have had to have givn up your position at some point anyway. You did the right thing then and so should you do the same now

All you have to say is that you was pregnant and was taking time out to raise your family. The employer is not going to check up on you. Apart from benefits being private and confidental and they are not allowed to pass any information on, it is really none of the employers business why you had time out. Good luck x
