Careers & Employment - February 2007

I have been married 11 years (since I was 18) and have been a "house wife" for most of that time. I do not have enough income credits for retirement. I can not find our statements right now for the specifics. I am pretty sure that it said on my husbands statement that if I became disabled that I could recieve a check. Like I said, this was on his statement. Does that sound correct? I am worried about possibly having Psoriatic Arthritis. I worked as a seasonal worker but had to call off alot because I would wake up unable to even stand. If this gets worse am I just out of luck? Please help.

I'm 25 and I still don't know - is this particularly bad? I did Media at university and have a degree, but that was a complete waste of time and I've just recieved an analysis of my CV back in which they politely said it was rubish because it clearly shows that I don't have any goals. This is geting me really depressed, does anyone have any suggestions?

I am in Chatham, Ontario, my boss told me that unless the call centre closes down I have to come to work. What if it is unsafe to come to work? Isn't that like being in an unsafe workplace? Say we are in a blizzard or advised by the Gov't to stay off the roads? Just wondering where we are coved in the Labour Laws for such a thing, can can a boss write you up because you felt coming to work would put you at a greater then normal risk....thanks!!!

my colleague refuses to do any work and spends all the time in browsing the internet from 9am to 6pm. my boss is also least bothered about it and does not ask him anything at all!!!. ultimately entire job falls on my head.!!! how to tackle this?

Looking for a job I can do at home and still be here to take care of my grandmother.

I am good with the computer and I have Lots of Customer Service experience. I am good at research as well. However would be open to anything as long as it is legit and not and MLM or tied to the internet porn industry.

Will I be insubordinate? She has an Assist. Manager, yet she can't get any work done. She knows I will work my butt off, which is why she askes, but why do I have to give her my day off? Just wondering if I would be insubordinate if I said no?

Could someone point me at somewhere regarding legal rights regarding leaving an employment.

Specifically:
1. Can an employee EVER refuse to let you hand your notice in?
2. At what point is notice handed in? If I put an official letter in the boss' tray and email him, is that me handing it in? My boss is hard to pin down and I don't intend to do this at his convenience.
3. Say I was given a bad reference (which I don't deserve), do I have the right to see the reference either before or after it is sent to the new company?

Ok. I've already changed my major from business to nursing to philosophy and now i was thinking about changing it to biology, but honestly, i dont know what i want to do in life.

I love books, reading books, writing stories, talking to people, helping solve peoples problems, talking about life and everything about it philosophically, i like logic/math, i DO NOT want to be a doctor or a nurse but im good with biology, and i dont care how long it takes me to get the degree if i know i will like my job later.

please help me. i was thinking about opening up a book store later on, but you dont need a degree for that and im still clueless as to what to do.

........I am not talking about a bunch of under 40 y/o flaunting their important sounding job titles and in reality they are just "nobodies" that are full of ego.
