Do you "enjoy" your job and roughly, how much did you make when you first started and how are the raises? I hear it's a Union.

I don't know of anyone to recommend one. I looked in the local Yellow Pages but which one? Supposedly, I was displaced due to restructuring which is questionable. I was given a suspicious Separation Agreement and General Release of All Claims to sign. In this Agreement it states "do not sign without the advice of a lawyer". I was given a terrible severance package and told not to discuss it with anyone. I was given a cheezy, generic reference letter and was told "no phone calls for references". This is hurting my job search along with the fact that I am 55 years old. I was told my co-worker would be terminated in another week and now found out that she is being given special privileges because she was formally employed with the parent company and will be getting a different severance package because of that. Additionally, I had filed a workplace harassment complaint against 8 employees of the parent company on 12/03/06 and 2 months later find myself terminated. Suspicious?

I have just been fired from my job, I was a fitness instructor. I liked my job and worked very hard. I had been working there for 5 and a half months so still in my 6 months probation period, just. The new manager, who for know reason disliked me, he had been talking about making some cut backs then a week later fired me for not inputting data on the computer which i did only it had conveniently gone missing from the files, another reason is that I didn’t wear my name badge on two occasions. Is this an unfair dismissal?? Is there anything that I can do??

Oh and I was given no notice, in my contract it says I’m entitled to 1 week notice.

See, I love my job. It's rewarding and fulfilling and I like my coworkers... but in the morning, I groan and grumble and throw the alarm clock across the room and pout about how I don't want to go to work... 'cause as much as I like my job, I like other things better.... so tell me, does anyone wake up in the morning and go "I'M SO GLAD I'M GOING TO WORK TODAY?"

A recent e-mail has been sent around my department advising that you must be at your desk and logged on the phones at your start time. I work in one of the largest buildings in Leeds, at the oposite side to the entrance. It can take 3-4 minutes to get to my desk then another 5 minutes to get the ice age PC's to boot up. This means i have to be at work 10 - 15 mins before my start time. Is this legal??? If anyone can provide a link to proove any theory this would be greatly appreciated.

I have handed my notice in and I finish on Thursday. I work as a Recruitment Consultant and get about £16k pa plus bonus. I have been offered a job as an Estate Agent (my dream job - I've wanted to do it for years) and I have almost been offered (its 90% certain) another recruitment role for £18k plus bonus. I really, really want to accept the Estate Agency job but the salary is only £11,250 plus bonus.

I need to earn at least £15k pa in order to be able to pay all my outgoings, which I have already reduced to the minimum by cancelling the things I don't need.

What do I do? Do I decline the Estate Agency job in the hope that the recruitment role doesn't fall through, and get paid better money for a job I don't really want or do I through caution to the wind and go for my dream career and risk getting myself into financial difficulty? I am pretty sure I can earn great bonuses there but I hate having to rely on it!! I also have other applications pending...

I am currently a trainee solicitor. I studied law, did my post grad and am going to qulify in a few months. I have "went along" with it ever since I started uni and now I am starting to think that I really do not want to do law. However, I am 25 and feel that in a way it is too late to make an change. I also feel that I may not be being too sensible or practical passing up a career where there is good financial gain and stability simply because I do not enjoy it. On the other hand, though, because I do not enjoy it, I feel I never give 100% to it - I am out the door at 5! I think that if I enjoyed something else more, then I would be better at it, and therefore able to gain more from it, both personally and financially.

I am really confused and wonder what others have done who have maybe been in an analogous situation. I enjoy reading, writing, travel and sport and would like to do something connected with that. I have also thought of PR/Marketing. Any help is appreciated.

I've been offered a job as administrative staff which pays around 17500 UK Pounds/year, is this considered low or mid-range? How much should normally I expect for that kind of work?
