Nope, it might not be so "grand" as a secretary's job!!! It could just be filling in paperwork, filing, photocopying, go-fering for the whole office, which includes tea and coffee making too! You could ring them and say you're interested but before possibly wasting their time by applying for something different to what you thought, what exactly is involved?

Its not a Secretaries job unless their asking for a significant typing speed. Having been an Office Manager in a small charity I can say an admin job in such an environment is likely to be more varied than in business or council/civil service.

You could be taking calls on a Help Desk, ordering stationery, responding to correspondence, creating statistics, helping to organise Conferences or Courses. As well as all the tasks listed above.

Contact the Charity and find out more. If the Charity has a web-site check them out there.

Let's get one thing straight - an administrator is not necessarily below a secretary. I should know, I've been a legal secretary and a branch administrator for an estate agents, and the latter was much better paid and had more autonomy and responsibility. An administrator's job is pivotal to the whole of the office (it's in no way a junior post). It will involve a lot of paperwork and setting up and updating computer based filing systems and databases, whereas a secretary's job will involve lots of (boring) typing. Go for it!

In a charitable organization it could include a lot of functions which will give you training for a higher position. Don't turn it down because of the title: You'll especially want to know if you'll be supervised by more than one person and if your funds are guaranteed or based on successful fundraising by other staff members: especially if you're leaving a job where income is not a problem.

i work in office admin and its not a secretarial job, i dont deal with the public like you would in a reception. i spend most of the time typing and on the telephone, alot easier than secretary also as you can go in witha hangover or looking awful without having to worry. haha

In a charitable organization it could be anything from answering phones, filing to accounts payable, receivable. It could be a good experience though. However, if it's a small organization, don't expect pay raise or promotion. It just doesn't happen.

Yes, probably less than a secretary. Not a bad position though.

Secrataries are quite skilled with shorthand, diary management and MS office skills such as powerpoint presentation experience - Office admin would require less skills - possibly filling, post duties, photocopying etc
