I was a full-time employee with a company and got sick, so I missed days here and there (averaging 2 work days a week). Now, my company is saying that since I set my own hours (by calling in sick), that I'm an independent contractor. I know the IRS has a 20 point test and I'm so an employee. I lose benefits if I switch and have to pay all income taxes myself. Can they really ask this of me? They are just trying to keep me as an employee without going over their 15 employee limit, so they call me a "contractor" but really I'm an employee!

My employer wants to send me to an training conference at the end of spring. This date conflicts with other plans I have.

Can my employer REQUIRE that I go...in other words, can i be retaliated against for refusing to go on a 4 day seminar that is 2000 miles away from my home over a weekend (when I work M-F)???

I graduated from college back in May 2006 with a B.S. in Information Systems & Operations Management. I took a job that July that is not in my field just to get started with some full-time work experience. But now, I'm realizing that I just don't make enough money to pay all of my bills (car note, rent, electricity, insurance, etc) effectively without having to take out loans. I currently make about $26,000 a year, but I rarely see any of it after bills roll in. I was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to where I could start looking for a higher paying job. I'm a North Carolina resident, by the way.

My plant is laying off people for this week, because we are ahead of schedual, and not enoghe new orders are coming in.

I have never been layed off before, and I have no idea how to apply for unemployment. I do need to apply, to help retain some of the family income .

I live in Iowa, if that helps at all .

I was just wondering what the general rule was for putting GCSE results on CVs. Most CVs I've seen don't include them, but I'm still studying - although now at Uni - and my work experience is limited. So should I include them?

Is it true that chances are slim that you'll be called in for an interview unless you go to certain schools or have a lot of experience at well known companies? What's your experience been?

Instead of paying to rent them what i've been doing is borrowing one i want(without anyone knowing,i come in early)and then bringing it back the next day, there is no way i can be caught because i come in before the workers come in and put it in my bag so when i leave they dont see it,is there any harm in what i'm doing?i'm not stealing btw.

i have been working for an offshore drilling contractor for the past five years. i have never been written up or had any complaints from my direct supervisors. however i have been having trouble with our rig superintendent, so to avoid further conflict i asked him for a transfer to another rig. he told me that he would not give me the trans. put that he would go ahead and fire me. i was thinking that since this was just personal problems between he and i and he took advantage of his position that this would be wrongful termination? as i said before , i have never been wrote up or had any complaints from my direct supervisors. just looking for some advice, thanks to all that answer.
