Hi, half of my family work in the Vet world. Whoever is on here and makes $25 bucks an hour is setting a record. Most vet techs make minimum wage or a bit over. Usually $8-$10 an hour is average. They do get medical insurance, but most benefits and wages depend on the Veterinarian you work for. Most offices are run by a head vet and his/her personality makes the difference when it comes to pay and benefits, most are pretty stingy, after all, that's money from their pocket. It's a tough tough job, it's physically demanding and you do get wet, bit, scratched and messy every day. There isn't much room for advancement, after you are a vet tech, there's no where to go unless you go to school to become a vet, which most don't do. There are schools that specialize in Veterinary technology degrees, but most vets want someone who's green to start with, so they can teach them to do things their way. It takes a huge love of animals and a lot of patience. It's a real labor of love, it's long hours (nights and weekends) and not much pay.

Not much. It depends on your location. Go to salary.com and search for the job and zip code. That'll give you a pretty good idea.

They don't really make too much, but look at this way, you get all the scratches, bites and animal feces you'd ever want.
