Will I be insubordinate? She has an Assist. Manager, yet she can't get any work done. She knows I will work my butt off, which is why she askes, but why do I have to give her my day off? Just wondering if I would be insubordinate if I said no?

No, that isn't insubordination.

But, you may be looking at this wrong. I know it sucks to lose one of your days off. But, are you planting the seeds for advancement by doing so? Usually, yes. Your boss already has identified you as a good employee. By going above and beyond, you show you value the company, and put yourself in a good position for raises and advancement.

There are 261 work days in a year, that adds up to 2088 hours of work (8 hours a day). At my job, I get 20 days of vacation a year, and 13 days of sick leave. That's 264 hours. I get 10 holidays a year, which is another 80 hours. This reduces my total hours at work to 1744 hours, or 218 days. I'm allowed a 15 minute break in the morning and a 15 minute break in the afternoon. That reduces the total to 1635 hours. So, in a given year, I work 204 full days, or 78% of the time. Basically, it works out to where If I had total freedom over when I use that time, I could take off 1.1 days a week and still work the same amount of hours that I normally work. :)

No, u have a right to your days off. It is a privilege. U won't be insubordinating. But however, if they insist, u give a good reason, like elderly parents not ok, or things like that. Some managers are vindictive, and do not know where to draw the line. They feel, they have purchased u by paying salary.

One of two things can happen. Assume in each scenario you work the day off, don't complain, and generally work as well as you usually do.
Either you'll score some brownie points, which will look good when a possible promotion or possible pay raise comes up/give you some leeway if you end up needing a favor.
Or, the manager will continue to abuse the fact that s/he can call you in any day of the week they feel like to make you work.
Depends on where you work, either way, the extra money is good, and come on, 3 days off a week? Working one won't kill you.

Will you get overtime pay for the xtra days worked? Will your mgr note your contributions? If it's no and no, forget it.
