I have been living overseas for about 4 years, I returned back to the States 4 months ago and have been at my current job now for almost 3 months, so became out of touch with current salaries. Basically I didn't do enough research on what my pay rate for my skills should be and realize (stupid I know) I requested a salary that is much lower than the local average, about 6,000 a year lower. I am approaching my 3 month end of probation meeting, how should I bring this up? I really need a raise.I am pretty sure my boss will confirm my employment, but I need to mention this. How should I go about doing it?

Not "envelope stuffing" or mailing list scams. I'm looking for something to be done from home like product assembly. I know somebody that makes magnets at home, looking for something like that.

Okay, I've gone through the whole interview process and I got a job as an Office Manager with "some payroll duties". So, I've got some experience in payroll for a large company with a very nice program that did a great deal of the work for me. And, I'm familiar with employment laws and such; so, I'm not worried about that. But, apparently, in this company, I will need to manually calculate payroll--including deducting state and city taxes, Medicare, etc. Does anyone out there have any experience with manually doing payroll in Kentucky?

I would think of course you are not suppose to make yourself sound incompetent but how would a weakness be connected as a positive thing.

Anybody know? I'm "at risk" of getting one and I'm going to play by the rules and kiss up and do whatever I have to do.

But my boss is a psychopath and he's gonna sabatoge things if he can... god help me.

My record is really good up to this point. What should I do?

Does this kind of stuff follow you around for life?

Thanks.

You have applied for another job elsewhere and have been chosen as finalist. Before a final decision is made, the other employer wants to speak to your current boss. The new employer wants to verify details about your position, ect. However, prior to the other job speaking to your current boss, you have to accept the new offer. There is no guarantee of employment. Summing it up, how does someone approach their current boss (after accepting the new offer) in explaining that this other employer wants to speak to him, without causing too many hard feelings? There is a chance that the new employer could fall through. Also, note that a written resignation will not be submitted at the time the current boss is notified about the prospective employer calling. A written resignation will only be given if hired by the prospect. Hope this isn't too confusing....

My boyfriend has just started a new job and always comments on how his colleagues constantly make fun and are unusually harsh to him. He pretends it doesnt bother him but i can tell its getting him quite down. Hes always had alot of respect from his family and friends so i guess hes not used to it. Any tips that dont involve violence and just telling them where to go, cos the first would cost his job and the second has been tried. Like at school they'd tell you to just ignore it but in a mature work place, there should be something he can do?

I worked my reg. hours through out the week, and I worked on Saturday (i got OT) but on Tuesday I got sick and filled out a form to use my sick time to replace that day. The owner's wife change it and used my OT time instead of my sick time. I got pissed and asked for all my vacation hours. Was I wrong? They didn't ask me if they should've done that, I just feel they should've asked!

I am employed at a Jamba Juice location in Bakersfield, CA, and I have just been informed that I am required to attend a Christmas Party. My family does not celebrate Christmas, or any other winter holiday, for that matter. In truth, in the past three weeks, I have worked 2 hours all together, so I feel no particular loyalty to this company. I have also been informed that I am expected to spend $20 on a gift for another employee, which effectively wipes out my earnings for the past pay period. So, my question is, can I be ordered to attend a non-paid, religiously based company function?

I want to be a chef so badly, but also a teacher when I am older. Which should I chose, because I have no clue. I love food (cooking, mostly....not eating, for some odd reason, unless it is really good food) but I also love kids (of all ages) alot. And I can't be both, so HELP!

Just wondering what kind of impression it can make on an interviewer (or what would cross your mind seeing me in a uniform if I was to interview with you for a job)?

I believe I'm just like any other college student. Confused with what to major in . . .I honestly have no idea.

I like reading and writing, but honestly, where is that going to get me? Please don't say things like author or poet, these are very admirable careers, but obviously very hard to "break" into.

Any ideas? It's awful not to have any clue, and I'm very interested in hearing other's ideas. . .
