I applied for a county government job. I went to the interview more than 2 weeks ago and still no answer. The interviewer told me it takes 2-3 weeks by mail to notify you to for a 2nd interview if you make it. I haven't got a call or letter whether I passed or not. Is the wait long? Should I call and ask if the job has been taken? Does any government worker have experience with this process? How does the government interview process compare to private industry (ie. is it harder or easier)? Btw this is for the auditor controller LA county. Thanks

I am having major problems at work stemming to issues that can only be solved by me finding a new job. If I leave on my terms (and good terms) will I still be able to receive unemployment benefits while I job hunt?

How can any body deal with his or her own boss who gives bad references just because he wants to get back to you by not letting you grow in some other organisation.Recently one of my friends who had cleared his psychology tests, varifications, GD and interviews for a company, and had his appointment letter in his hand, was dissappointed because he could not get the job just because of one bad reference he got from his supervisor.

I currently attend school to pursue accounting (still have 3 years, tho!) and have been offered 2 jobs within a week in Baltimore City.

The first job I was offered is with HSBC as a Customer Accounts Rep (I'll be the one you talk to about questions on your statements and accounts) and the pay is $11.75/hr plus bonuses with a schedule of M,Tu, Th, F, SU 1:30-10:30pm. I like the fact that the company wants to hire me, but the wage is lower than my last position by $3.25.

The second position is with ADP, a worldwide payroll, business administration and HR mecca. You may have seen ADP on your paychecks. The position is temp to perm and pays $15.63 with mandatory overtime during Nov-Feb which is just an hour extra a day. The schedule is M-F 9-5:30 and the benefits would be thtough my temp agency which is great, and I love the agency.

I can advance with both companiesas I obtain my degree, so both are a viable option. Both also offer great health/dental/401K benefits, too

Help!

Lets face it, not everyone has a college degree, and not everyone can be a doctor/lawyer/natural braniac. But we all would like to make enough money to pay the rent and utilities each month, and maybe enjoy a little extra something now and then, and some people have no one else on whom to depend but themselves. Where is a good state in the US that has a truly diverse economy where people who are willing to work can actually survive and even thrive? Forget the education at middle age+, and remember that a lot of success is how others see you, as good looking, youthful, and charming. Just looking for a place where ordinary people can make it. Thank you.

Most companies have a list of "approved items" that they will order from the office supply store and deliver to you. Some companies are very generous, some have 10 basic items. What's on your "wish list" that you'd love to use, your company won't buy for you, and you have maybe occasionally bought yourself? Be specific. Also, say what kind of company you work for (i.e. law office, hospital, etc.) and rate your company's office supply policy as

"Generous" - a whole office store catalog--you can order anything
"Average" - 25-250 or so items from an office store catalog, you can order any of those
"Limited" - a list of 25 or fewer items

In recent "The Apprentice", Tarek put in his resume to Donald Trump that he was a Mensan. Donald Trump was very impressed, praised him a lot and gave him headstart as project manager in 1st episode. But after Tarek did not perform, Tarek was slammed/condemned many times by Trump in subsequent episodes. Mentioning Mensa membership can be a liability later as there may more pressure on person to perform when he gets the job but does it increase chances of getting the job during interview stage?

Our office is so cold....I am wearing two jackets and a coat over my clothes. And - still I can't work because my fingers are numb. No one will listen to those of us in this work area and we are all miserable. I would like to prove to management some studies have been done that a freezing cold work area decreases productivity.

I have an interview today and am always failing in my opinion when it comes to interviews because I don't know how to answer their questions. I will be applying for a cardiologist receptionist position and I have 3 years expereince. I was laid off from the previous job. I am currently a cashier and have been for 2 years and know I can make alot more with this job. How do I answer questions like Why do you want this job? What happened in your last jobs that you're not there? Do you have any questions for us? What are you weaknesses? What are your strengths? What do you see yourself doing in 5 years?
