I have an interview today and am always failing in my opinion when it comes to interviews because I don't know how to answer their questions. I will be applying for a cardiologist receptionist position and I have 3 years expereince. I was laid off from the previous job. I am currently a cashier and have been for 2 years and know I can make alot more with this job. How do I answer questions like Why do you want this job? What happened in your last jobs that you're not there? Do you have any questions for us? What are you weaknesses? What are your strengths? What do you see yourself doing in 5 years?

I am basically the exact same way. A lot of people tell you not to memorize or rehearse your answers, but you really have to. What I did to prepare for my interviews is, I went on Yahoo search and typed in interview questions. Print it out and then fill in the answers. make sure you study your answers the night before the interview. Believe me, this helps A LOT!!!!!

First, you have to relax before the interview. Just think of it as meeting a new person and you are going to tell them about yourself - within reason and only about your job. Interviewers can sense and tolerate some nervousness, but too much concerns them that you can't handle pressure well and you may not do a good job when thing get busy.

You also have to practice. Look up "tough interview questions" on google and review them with honest answers. Write down how you would truely answer. I know some of these questions are silly and tough to honestly answer, but the practicing will help you to sound more like you than a canned answer. Keep you answers short and to the point. You can get caught up the "too much information" trap. 1 to 2 solid sentences is fine, 3 if necessary.

Stick to career oriented answers. I once answered this question "What is you greatest accomplishment?" with "My daughter because etc..." They were thrown back by that and did not get the job.

Practice with a friend. Have them ask the question and evaluate your answers. If you don't have friends that could do this effectively, go to a temp agency or local college and ask if someone can help you.

Good Luck!

First, remember when you are sitting there looking at that person who is basically judging you and trying to determine whether you are the right person for the job, they don't like interviewing anymore than you do. ( I am speaking as someone who had to hire alot for my company.) Second they are a person just like you, try to make a human connection that is what they are going to remember. Not only is the interviewer looking to fill the position with the right experienced person, but they are looking also for the righ personality to fit on an existing team, they have to discover you. Then take your time, consider the question. Every question is designed to discover how you will handle situations, so use personal experiences for examples, but try to not be negative about anyone or any past job, even if it was a bad time find something positive to say. And last but not least RELAX and you will be fine.

Make sure you are honest. You want the job because you enjoy that type of work and you are good at it, you have had 3 years experience. Let them know you were laid off due to the company's cut backs. If you have questions for them ask. And be honest about your strenghts and weaknesses. Tell them where you see yourself in 5 years weather it is still doing the same position or moving up with their company. Good Luck!

just be honest. but not too honest (dont say everything that pops to your mind) put yourself in their shoes and what would u like to hear back from an interviewee. then say something to that effect. tell them u had probs at your other job (if they werent too bad) and then go on to explain how u got past that or got over whatever it was. they like to see that u have made positive change or are willing to. as for why you want the position: well they arent stupid they know a good part is money, but also say something about previous experience and how u liked that job. you want to see yourself in a successful, fulfilling job in the next coming yrs. and this is something u wont find with a cashier position. questions for them can be anything or nothing. u can ask about hrs, whats expected of u (workwise) pays, vacation, benefits, etc. weaknesses just be honest....we all have them and as long as u arent a psycho killer then they can be worked around or thru.

good luck! hope u get the job :)

Where do you see yourself in 5 years? Promoted with the company, and enhancing my skills.

What happened in your last jobs that you're not there? There where no room for advancements.

Do you have any questions for us? (this is where you should have done your research on the company) Do you promoted within the company? Is there room for advancements?

What are your strengths? I'm hardworking, work well with others, team player, excellent communications skills, detailed oriented.

What are your weaknesses? I'm a workaholic, I do not like to sit around and do nothing, this is when I ask my co-workers do you need a hand with anything. But this weakness will not hinder my job performance.

When interviewing, you're basically selling yourself to the employer. Figure out what it is they are looking for and tailor your answers around that. Just excentuate your strengths (i.e. good communication skills, ability to multi-task, etc...) and experience in the field. Practice your answers before you go so that you feel more comfortable. Be yourself and tell the potential employer what you can contribute to their business and why they should hire you. Good luck!
