I applied for a county government job. I went to the interview more than 2 weeks ago and still no answer. The interviewer told me it takes 2-3 weeks by mail to notify you to for a 2nd interview if you make it. I haven't got a call or letter whether I passed or not. Is the wait long? Should I call and ask if the job has been taken? Does any government worker have experience with this process? How does the government interview process compare to private industry (ie. is it harder or easier)? Btw this is for the auditor controller LA county. Thanks

Government interview process is usually longer.

Like IRS vacancies application closed October 1, but the chosen applicants can start work in January. So the whole process takes a quarter to complete.

You can call, but you have to understand that you are dealing with bureaucracy. And that means SLOW

I didn't find out til about 2 weeks or so after my interview. Government takes a long time to process things. Sometimes a month. I would hold a little bit longer, then call back asking if the position had be filled, or ask what is the current status on that job. Good luck! I waited a month from handing my resume to getting the job!

Well you certainly have the right to know your score or if you passed a test. You also have the right to know if th ejob is filled.
Often they will put a job up for applicants when they already have the person they want in store, or know who they are going to hire(such as a relative, or friend). But rules require them to post the job.
I know it could take smonths or years before you hear form the federal people..
Twice I knew peo[ple who applied for a federal job and one day about two year slater they got a call askingif they were still interested in the job. One was a postal position paying very well.
The state is suppose to notify you here concerning your application for a job. They hire so many people who are not qualified they are often flooded with people they can not get rid of.

Oh I know this one.
Takes three to four weeks from the closing of the job announcement. Usually the announcement will have a closing date. So for example if the job announcement closed on Sept 30, 2006 they would not contact you till near the end of October.

The person said 2-3 weeks. It has been 2 weeks. Don't go POSTAL over this job and wait 4 weeks before contacting them. This is the government and timeliness is not one of their strong suits. If they want you they will let you know.
