Classic story. In college, hate my low-wage job, desperately need money to pay bills, and I need it soon. (and I REFUSE to get embroiled in credit card debt) I'm thinking of being a cocktail waitress, probably at a strip club, but I'm concerned as to how future employers will view something like that. Does anyone know if it will really negatively affect me, or will most people look at the kind of employee I really am and judge me by that? I have a good resume, a lot of experience at respectable places, and generally ace job interviews.

I keep seeing signs like not paying til 3 days after, no real good benefits, 1 sick day, not getting new software. My boss said he was going to make changes and it would benefit the people who stick with him. A friend of his told me that he does not have much money any more. He keeps telling us there is a lot of work but it is not being given out by anyone. He seems to be out of the office a lot and doesn't do much to change the situation. What the hell is going on here? The one good thing about this is that he is very flexible, I have been missing a lot of days on purpose but he does not fire me. It is not because of affirmative action because there are many asians here already. Please help!!

I'm living in a homeless shelter where they won't let me work. What should I do? Is there any way I can do a job for pay without being employed? Please don't say hooker or prostitute. I mean LEGIT jobs, like babysitting or something. I have my college degree, & now I'm homeless & am not allowed to work. I have debts & student loans to pay off. How can I work around this situation? I mean, if you put yourself in my shoes, would you work as employed anyway?

My mom found this ad for government jobs on the newspaper, and quickly let me know about it because it said its employees get paid up to 18 dollars an hour. I called and they asked me to come in. I went and after I filled out an application they told me I needed to pay $10 to take a test and process my application. It seemed a bit odd because I don't you shuold pay to do that, so I left to do a bit of research on them. They have no logo or address... they're just called "American Registration Center." I googled it and nothing comes up pertaning to government jobs. I wonder if it's a scam?

I believe my past boss is bad mouthing me to prospective employers when I put that work experince on my resume! I believe he holds a grudge because I didn't like to play office politics with the other office girls. I.E. gossiping, talking about confidentual issues.

My colleague's first language is not English. He speaks English moderately well for someone who has been in North America for the last four years (I should know, I used to teach ESL). However, this guy is contacting many local businesses and even media outlets on behalf of our company. The signature on his emails reads, "Thank you for being my friend!"

My boss has seen this and not commented on it. I think it's HIGHLY unprofessional to use such a signature when dealing with North American companies. Do you think I should say something or keep my mouth shut?

My wife works for a retail firm and has just been told company policy is that from now on stock arrangement must be done "out of hours" That is in her own time and amounts to compulsory overtime She only works 20 hours per week and has had no formal correspondence from her employer about changes to her working conditions. This has come from her manager via regional office. She does not want to do this but has been told she must. What rights has she and what can she do?

my partner has just been told by his employer that he is being asked to go and see occupational heath due to his number of sick days in the last 3 years !! he has had 3 months in total, all of which have been certified by a doctor and all for legitimate reasons. He has just returned to work after 3 weeks with pnuemonia !! his employer also asked that if he was looking for other employment that they would have to let the future employer know these details, is this correct ? also his employer said that this time he has had off over the last 3 years would effect his pay ?!? He is actually entitled to 6 months full pay and 6 months half pay per 12 calender month. It feels as if he is being bullied. Please can anyone advise as to what they think and what we should do . P.s. we live in the UK, and i know the law is different in the uk to the U.S.

I have heard talk that my company is creating a new position for Sub-contracting. I have ideas that I want to present to the Sr. VP but I have a director above me and a VP above him. This position is in another area. Should I run my ideas by my boss and his boss even though they will not be responsible for this new position or do I by-pass them? Any thought on this?

Sure, we have laws to protect the worker but everyone is so afraid of losing their security or being harassed on the job that very little is actually done to make the workplace better.
If a Dr. Pepper employee brings a Coke to work he is in danger of being fired on the spot.
If your boss screams, cusses and throws tantrums...sure you can complain about it but the big boss isn't going to do anything about it and the other employees who are also suffering from the same kine of abuse won't stand by you because they are too chickenshit.
When will we wake up?
