Absolutly. Say, for example, you are applying for a position that handles cash or finances, and your credit is poor. This could be an indicator that you are not making enough money to pay your bills and obligations, and could cause concern that you might steal or embezzle funds for your personal use.

Or, how about with poor credit, that you might just receive debt collections calls at the workplace, resulting in lost time dealing with these personal calls for personal issues? I can't imagine that the stress that would bring to the workplace doing anyone any good.

How about the addtional payroll work required when of your creditors garnishes your wages? It results in extra work/expense for the prospective company that might hire you.

Yes. If a person is hurting financially because of debt many are more likely to embezzle from the company.

An employer should not be doing a credit check - that would be invasion of privacy.
