Today is 10/19 and my job offer is valid through 11/13 but I have second interviews with other firms after 11/13. The job offer is from a great firm but I want to see what the others offer me.

It at least shows you are interested. However, they would just as likely hand it to the next person on the list.
If you like the offer you got, you can take it and then explain later that you got a better offer if something comes along. The first company may then make a counteroffer and you could get more money or better benefits, etc.

Ask for an extension for a week stating that you will be out of station and will therefore be unable to join then. It is OK to do so. They may give you a few days or they may not. But you can always ask.
