I'm currently looking to move to Birmingham for a few years whilst I finish off my degree in maths with the open university, mainly because where I live there is so little work I thought it wise to move to the closest city to me.
I've had a good look at some of the "flatshare" websites to get an idea of the prices, but to be honest I haven't got a clue what the different areas of Birmingham are like to live and work in. I've spent a fair amount of time in Selly Oak as some of my mates live their whilst at Uni and it seems abit of a **** hole in all fairness.
I was wondering if there are any particually rough areas of Birmingham in which one wouldn't like to reside, even if only for a few years?
Also, on the subject of employment, where would the majority of the jobs be based, in the city centre I would assume, but is there anywhere else high in white-collar employment I could look into?
Any help from you Brummies would be really helpful, ta.

I' am thinking of changing my name mainly because I think my first name is very unique and I aspire to go to law school and work in a more professional arena in the future and I think my name would hurt me when seeking employment.

I'm curious to know what do you guys think about having unique names and seeking employment. Thanks in advance.

I was wondering if its legal for a company to not pay you if you are training. Like if you are being trained and they don't pay you because you are just starting.

The place i used to work had cooks and busers who wouldn't get paid for like the 3 first weeks because supossely they were in training and if they didn't learn they would get fired without ever getting paid. i was wondering is this ilegal?? Because it seems unfair that you are still working even though your in training.

Can someone tell me if i could report this to the department of labor and to who do i report it...can someone please help, i don't want them to be doing that to other people...even though they never did that to me it seems unfair!
I live in Washington State so can someone tell me if i need to report it and to who? Thanks i would appreciate it!

i would like to post my resume on a job website like monster.com, but i do not know what i should put on it. i have a 4 year degree in accounting, but the only experience i have in accounting is an internship that lasted one semester. i worry that employers will not be interested in me, when they could hire someone with 3 years of experience. i worked at taco bell, starbucks, and staples in high school and college. should i put that on the resume, even though its unrelated to accounting?

I'll be 30 on August 19th. I've done some nice things in my life. Own a home, cool car, great family, lots of friends and a sweet guy I'm seeing. I have a cool career. I'm a Paralegal and a Law student. I'm a happy young lady. But with my birthday fast approaching, I feel as if there is something to be desired. I've been married before so it can't be that. I am a proud parent of beautiful children, so I'm cool there. I have a great relationship with God and we hit it off well. But somehow, as it relates to my achievements, I think I could have done more. Am I trippin'? Do any of you feel the same way? Tell me your story. 10 points to the best answer.
