Careers & Employment - July 2006

When I graduate (i graduate in 2 years) Im going into 11th grade in Sept. I am planning on college...and i am planning on becoming a nurse to help out people...this means dealing with delivering babies, helping in a nursing home(s),ect. And i am also planning on the music business (industry) and i am good enough to fill a spot in there someplace. I am a smart person for both. If i would i would like to go for being a producer or something, and/or be in a band...such as being a singer and maybe playing the guitar. (I dunno how to play the guitar yet) Im gonna buy one tho and i am gonna play it without notes (I can't read notes). I can play by listening, not notes.
What do you think?
I have more to say but it all won't fit...but this is mostly it.

Don't get me wrong -- I would love to tele-work. However, business is all about making money...not employing people...not making work nice for employees...money drives business...and if you can do your job from anywhere, why not China or India?

I'm very socially awkward, I'm trying to change, but I dunno how. Anyone that knows me get surprised how little I make considering the skills and experience I have. I get job interviews because I send my resume a lot, and like I said, I have a lot good work qualities, but when I get the interviews, people just don't like, and don't hire me. I never tell people I go to interviews because I'm embarassed to say I went to 70 interviews in one year to get the job I have now, and I've gone to 30 interviews this year to try and raise my salary, and no luck. Even though I'm the one who works the most here, I'm the one who gets paid the least. My boss hired me when she saw me working at another job, and was loved my work, and was shooked how little I made. So now I work for her, but it's still not what I should be making. She knows how much I have trouble getting a job, so she doesn't she just won't give me a raise. What can I do?

I started working here 18 months ago, I loved my salary. As soon as I got in, I realized my co-workers were real real jerks. It didn't take me 3 month before I started sending out resumes everywhere. I'm 24 year old college dropout, and the interviews didn't go well, no one seemed to think there was any reason, after 6 months and me getting along even worse with my co-workers, I started asking jsut to macth my salary, but no one seems to think I'm worth what I'm getting paid here, some would take me if I accept working for less. I dunno what to do, I'm sick of working here. Me not getting along with the people here doesn't interfere with my work, but I'm sick of eating by myself, and being here and no one talking to me at all. It's long story, I've worked other places before, and I never had this problem with people, these people are just jerks. What can I do? no one wants to match my salary, and I can't afford living with less money.

i had to quit a job due to changes in personal life and gas prices. Child came to live with me and i couldn't find a safe enviorment for her while I worked at night on a 12 hour shift out of town. Can I be eligable for an voluntary quit claim for unemployment.

My neighbor's husband lost his job last year and has a significant change in his salary with his new job. We have been friends for years, and we help them out when we can with extra food that we buy (they are only getting 120.00 a month in food stamps and no other assistance). Their kids come to our house alot when the parents have to work late, both of them are trying to find a better paying job but that is almost impossible. Is this kind of situation going on just in Louisiana or all over the country?

Hi all,

I want apply for a job which I think I'm perfectly qualified for, with a major Christian NGO. Problem is, I'm not a Christian, and they won't answer this question directly when I put it to them: do I still stand equal chance of getting the job? Am I even alowed to apply? One, I can't provide a pastors refernce. I can see they're making it difficult for me, I just wondered where I stood legally with this (UK). Thanks for any input.

for example, if your contract states you have to give 4 weeks notice when resigning from your job, can the boss then say, its now 8 weeks notice that you have to give, even if you haven't been given a new contract saying this, and your contract still says 4 weeks?

I reckon if I had 3 days off I would be more rested and willing to come to work and therefore would increase productivity. So, employees would gain a happier more eager work force.

Plus weekend would never be too far away!

I had a good job before I went out of my country for just 1 year.after I returned back I saw everybody got higher title who works so undiscpline, not educated and has no experienced about the job.I was totaly shocked and I dont beleive what I am seeing at this moment.what I am doing now?I was an supervisor before.and now,I am working as an clerk. I employed a guy in my Liquor store 2 weeks ago.
I gave him 8 shifts of 4 hours at $18.75 per hour. He only turned up for 4 shifts after calling in with explanations like>>> I can't work tonight because it's my GrandMa's birthday, I have football training, I feel too ill to work, My Dad needs me to help him with his business!
Is this kid for real???????
