Dress as if you are representing the accounting department at a fortune 500 meeting. You can convert to casual once you get the job, but you need to go in the door competing. First impressions are lasting ones.

Yes!

It doesn't matter if you are going to a trash heap. YOu still have to dress professional. That's a major reason why people don't get the job because of dress. IT doesn't have to be a two peice suit for all places. SOmetimes a nice shirt and slacks will do. But if it's a business office: go with the suit.

Also remember to turn off you cell phone ( if you have one)
Bring extra copies of your resume.
Bring a list of references ( addresses included)
Show up at least 15 minutes earlier
Firmly shake the interviewers hand
Have good eye contact
And think of some good questions to ask.

Good Luck!!!!

Yes...I have never seen where an employee going the extra mile to impress has ever hurt them.

Now if you show up in a tuxedo with a plate of brownies...then maybe that could backfire.

Be sure to shine those shoes...that is still a favorite of HR people.

The only way I could advise against dressing up in a suit would be if you KNEW that the corporate culture might look down their nose at you. I mean imagine showing up at McDonalds in a suit, for example.

When unsure, error on the side of "man, I really want to show you how much I want this job."

yes, always wear your business finest to the interview. It is not the same as you might be wearing on the job, but it makes a wonderful first impression...

You can't go wrong with a suit unless your are applying at some artsy place.
