First of all you would have to have a Commercial Drivers License.Depending on what type of hauling you are talking about as to what class ( A or B) of C.D.L. If it is over 26,000lbs. It will be a class A license. You will have to take a series of test to get the license. ( Air Brakes, combination vehicles, and general knowledge). It is a Federal test given by each state. You will then have to pass a pre-trip test, a backing test, and a driving test. If you don't already have A C.D.L. , you will have to pay a fee to use a truck. (around $200.00). If you have no driving experience other than a car. You will have to attend a driving school to be able to pass the test.
To get the job if you are just starting out, will be pretty difficult, as they are cream of the crop jobs and usually want drivers with a minimum of so many miles experience.
If you know the people that you want to drive for I would contact them and see what their requirements are. Also, you will have to have a clean driving record to be insurable and to get a C.D.L. No Dui's, no more than 3 speeding tickets in 3 years, no careless or wreckless driving tickets ect..
I hope this information helps you, and I wish you the best in getting the job you want.
I have been a Commercial Driver for a long time and now an Instructor at a driving school, and I thnk a job like that or hauling for a band would be an absolute blast.
Best Of Luck!!
