I was working at this camp. first as a councillor for summer camp, and then in the kitchen as year round staff, with the understanding that I would get to be a councillor again when summer camp started again. While I worked there, I always got great evaluations, and a raise every quarter (from $7.50 up to $8.50)

When I showed up to councilor training, they took me aside, and told me I had a lack of communication skills, and I wasn't welcome. I offered to go back to work in the kitchen, and they almost started yelling at me to leave. Then I told them they should fire me since I'd been there for a year, but they wouldn't do that either.

When I fill out an application, I don't know what to write for "Reason for leaving," and I don't know what box to check for "May we contact this employer." I've been out of work for a year now without a single phone call... Except for the camp, which asked me to come back, but then turned down my application. What's the deal?

I am told I am intellegent ALL the time however, my GPA in the past 2 years has gone downhill. I have a 2.55 (approx) I feel like such a failure sometimes. What is worse is when there are dingbat girls that can't tell the difference between a country and a continent who possibly have a higher GPA than me. YOU PEOPLE OUT IN THE REAL WORLD LET ME KNOW DOES GPA REALLY MATTER????Am I overstressing? Should I just enjoy the journey?

There's one in every office, they perform spectacular in the interview, have an impressive resume, but when it comes to real work, they suddenly have a billion excuses why they can't produce: the r&d won't give me the necessary info, marketing department's not cooperating, they didn't give me blah blah blah, it's their fault, their fault, their fault. Short of a personality test, what are some good questions/techniques that help you weed out these excuses people during the interview process?

I’m just wondering how common it is that someone has been given grief or treated like sh*t at their jobs because they had a family/personal emergency, such as a death or serious illness, etc that caused them to have to take some time off.

A year ago I suffered a miscarriage & when I went to call my boss to let them know that I would have to miss the rest of my shift, they actually said to me, “Is this about the whole miscarriage thing? What? You’re not DONE YET?!?” And then when I returned to work I had learned that it was rumored that I had made up being pregnant & was faking a miscarriage & that this rumor was started by my boss & a favored employee of their’s. To top it all off, when a co-worker had went to our boss to complain about inappropriate comments made by that favored employee in reference to my miscarriage, such as, “I hope her baby dies, she can’t afford a kid.”, this co-worker instead left our boss’s office w/the write up, not the jerk that said the comment.

Also, a co-worker of mine who has a daughter w/special needs had missed some time here & there because of their daughter’s illness, but over all had still maintain steady attendance. She had put in for some time off because her daughter needed a surgery that would help remedy many of the problems her illness was causing. Anyway, about a week before she was due to take that time off, she was given a write up & told that if she took anymore time off of work (including the already approved time off) that she would be fired. If that isn’t an obvious direct violation of the FMLA, I don’t know what is.

Anyway, what’s YOUR work horror story? LOL

How do I answer this if I am applying for full or part time? And what about places with different positions open? I have filled out soooo many apps. online in the past few weeks and I can't stand the questions. I don't even remember what I made at any of my jobs. I have been out of work for a year now and I am having a rough time remembering past salary and supervisors last names.....

I was terminated 'cause there were several days where I was not PROMPTLY on time. I worked with children at a hospital and sessions were at 8:30 & you were required to be there 30min before to set up, and basically I was getting there between 8 and 8:15 or sometimes closer to 8:20, and I was pretty stupid because I got warned a couple times, however I never thought it would come down to me getting fired. I was however a good employee, I got along with everyone, was good with the kids, knew what I was doing, and all that good stuff. SO I have a job interview coming up and I KNOW that I am very qualified for the position, and it's a position I REALLY want (I didn't even LIKE my last job anyway- blessing in disguise?). And if it wasn't for the attendance problems, I would be confident that I would get the job. My problem is how should I discuss firing in the interview? I read that you should bring it up before they even ask you but also you should not ever say you had attendance problems.

i've been asking people around what i should do after i graduate. you see, i'll be starting university in october. so, during my free time i want to do something. i don't want to do nothing. after going around, i've managed to narrow down five choices to do:

i could either work at:
a) JICC - it stands for 'jakarta international convention centre'. i live in indonesia and this place is for social work. there are also course works such as, cooking, painting, and other stuff. but i have to pay to do those course works.
b) Red Cross Indonesia - i think everybody knows what the red cross does.
c) LSM - it stands for 'lembaga swadaya masyarakat'. i know that nobody has a clue what that meant but it's just an indonesian NGO. i would like to work there but i heard people need to have a degree first in order to have a spot in LSM.
d) an orphanage - there are plenty of orphanages here. i could volunteer to help with the kids.
e) or at a kindergarten - working here can guarantee a paycheck.

so?
