I have a friend who is 31 years old and has a PhD in chemistry. She's considering attending law school (patent law) as it's something she's interested in. A few questions about this:

1. Will she likely feel out of place at the age of 31/32 in law school - just based on her age?
2. Is a PhD in chem a reasonable background for a career in patent law? Will it help in any way both in school as well as in her career? Will it be a hindrance of any sort? (Don't know why it would be but I thought I'd ask)
3. She has no children (is married) but would like children some day. She's concerned that going back to school (3-4 years) and then starting a new career will get in the way of having children (and vice versa). What are your thoughts on this?

Thanks for the answers, all!

Half of the settlement was general for damages and the other half was for proven loss of earnings. The settlement has been paid. How much, if any, do I show on my tax return?

Hi. My wife use to have a credit card with Express (The clothing store). She accidently missed a payment and a fee was accessed. She called them up to say that she would like to pay the balance in full and close the account, and that it would be appreciated if they could remove the fee. They agreed to remove the fee and she paid the balance. What they did not tell her was that they were calling this a settlement!!! This has hurt her credit severely. When she called them to ask to have it fixed, the refused...even when she offered to pay the fee that they took off. How can she get this blemish removed from her credit? How does she fight this? Thank you very much in advance.

I am a self employed hair stylist. I rent a chair in a salon from someone, and keep all the profits from clients. I pay taxes and social security, etc. throughout the year.

I had my taxes done professionally this year and the Tax Acct told me that I should set myself up as seperate company and get a payroll service to pay me. He said I could save $3000 per year in taxes this way. It would cost me abt $900 to get him to set this all up.

What do you guys think? Does this sound like a good idea?

Actually i was cheated by this Fraud company Global USI, telling they will issue a shopping card. Some how i was able to find the address and alllll the details of this fraud company. They took $250 from my credit card for the shopping card, which they never sent. But somehow i was able to get hold of them..along with their phone numbers and other office locations. Now the are telling they will refund the money by sending the cheque. They are telling that the cheque will reach me next week.
Is it believeable? What is the best way to get the money back.

I am leasing a house in Arkansas. I have lived here for the past 3 years. My lease is due again in October and I am planning on moving by then. My problem is that I feel my privacy is severly invaded. My landlord lives out of state and she showed up knocking at my door a little over a week ago. She gave me no warning and has been to my house everyday since arriving. I feel that a notice would have been nice but I allowed her in to check things that she felt was necessesary anyway. She wanted to just look at the house and check lights. She continues to come to the door wanting to check something different. Today she brought a man with her. I am fed up. Do I have any rights about her being here? She also hired someone to replace some rotten boards around the garage door and hired someone to brushhog the outer areas of the property. She showed up wanting 160.00 from me for this. I never agreed to this. Yes, I will be moving, but do I have to tolerate this invasion of my privacy?

Company have the ability to gain a huge profit by set their price on their product higher even only 5%. This company could probably lose market share by 10%, but still their bottom line profit could jump by more than 50%. Why these company would prefer 10% market share, instead 50% profit?

10 pts. for good or detailed answer.

This is a hypotheical question. Normally, if I am laid-off through no fault of my own, I get unemplyment benefits. However, if my employer files for bankrupcy, am I still entitled to any unemployment (or any possible appropraited other) benefits, either from my employer, the state and/or federal government, or any other source? Thanks

Hi anyone who works for construction related business... we have about 200 sets of drawings, and each set contains about 30- 50 pages. If you work for this area of business, you might have the same problem. They are huge and heavy, and when they are rolled up, they all look the same and you can't find the one you need. Then you use rubber bands to hold them together. You see the bands die so soon. How do you do this at your office? We got 2 of EXPEDIT book cases from IKEA, put them pararell so they can make enough depth to hold drawings. Do you have any better idea??

I just feel awkward saying so and so is no longer with the company and that I am their replacement. Is there a nicer way of saying this? She left for a better opportunity but only actually worked here about 8 or 9 months before leaving.

I am looking into buying a small house in about a year or two. I would have about 15-20% of the down payment.

However, I want to move across the country and get a job in a new city. Would I have to be employed for a certain amount of months/years at the same job in this new city to be considered for a mortgage? I am thinking I would probably have to rent for while???? I am only 23 and have a very stable past as far as jobs and credit.

I currently only have 1 credit credit and I pay the whole thing off each month. I don't have any store credit cards. In addition, I have a savings and checking account. My parents helped pay for college...so I have no student loans or car loans to worry about?!?!

But what else should I be doing to help my credit or being approved for a loan in the future?!?!

Thanks in advance for any tips!!!

Say I know my EBIT or EBITDA (your choice -- our enterprise software gives either easily). There are some things that I add and other things that get subtracted from this to get a close approximation of the change in cash position for the period. I don't remeber what those things are (college was a long time ago for me). Does anybody remember this? Thanks in advance.
