my nan died 0n the 24th of august 2007, my grandad received about 3 payments for her in september, he took them to the local jobcentre and gave them back he also told them about the death and he also gave the jobcentre my nans post office account card, the jobcentre cut it up and my grandad left, then nothing happened so he thought everything was sorted out. then a letter came from the dwp in dec, saying that there was a overpayment of £124 from 27/08 to 9/09 and he had to pay it back, so i took over and started looking into the problem, i found out that the post off acount was maybe still open, so i went and closed the account, a few days later i got the money out the acount which was £1999 and i also had a satement that showed the dwp had kept paying into the acount for the prev 13weeks, i dont understand wats going only, why only ask for £124 when they have paid over £1000 since, can anyone help, ps a friend said just pay them what they asked for and the rest is there mistake. thnx

I"ve been renting a room from a lady for a year for my very small buiness that I just started a year ago. I've been paying my rent in cash every time and was never given any receit for that.my income was very small, I could hardly live on that money, had to save on everything that's why I didn't register for any taxes. Now It's picked up very quickly and I'm doing really well and I want to register as self employed and do it properly. And I also decided to move to different premises so the lady I was paying my rent is very upset about it and she turned very nasty to me and she wants to report me to the Tax people saying that she knows that I'm not paying my income tax and I'll be tax investigated. How true is that? Could she really find out this information so easily just knowing my name and address or do you think she is bluffing?? Can she really report me to the Tax Office even if she never gave me receit for my rent?? What can Tax people do in my case?? Please help

I ordered a hat from U.S.A on the internet. It cost 49 dollars (£25) It was being sent to my elderly mother, but the delivery driver wanted £22 charge for import....My poor mother did not have the money on her so the driver left an invoice. This seams a very high amount for this hat? Any body know if this is right please?

It's 2007 (very nearly 2008). It's been around for over 20 years. Could it be that it would mean correspondence could be tracked and logged and there could be no excuses for incompetence and delay? I was asked to FAX something yesterday. It's a joke.

One is for a small amount when I was paying emergency tax, the other is the bulk of my income for that year. Is this what happens if you have been in two separate tax codes for the same employment? And should I put them both on my tax return?

On the tax return form, when completing employment details it asks you for a start and end date.
I worked through an employment agency during this period. I do not work through them anymore, but am still registered with them. Should I put the last date I worked with them in the 'date employment ended' box? Or leave it empty, since technically I have never left them?

I have been a UK expatriate for approximately 8 years, spending no more than 8 weeks in the UK over that period. I will be returning to the UK this year for a short period, no more than 3 months before returning oversees, and will be living in my PPR which was previously on a long term lease. Can I purchase unit trusts in the UK? Will I be liable for any tax in the years to come if I am still an expatriate?
Thanks
