Someone told me that some things are tax deductable 100%, but if so you would just spend money on things to the value of your tax bill so you didn't have to pay anything. Is he speaking sh*t?

Can someone clarify for me...if I sell a small guest house I know I am liable for cap gains tax but am I able to deduct estate agents fees before my tax is assessed i.e. is it ok to use a really good and expensive estate agent because the fees are deductable anyway?

Ive just started a job and the annual salary is £13,500 I was wondering how much I would get after deductions such as tax and NI.

I am just paying standard NI and tax and working for a company. I am 25 years old and work 35 hours a week dont know if you need that information.

Hello!
Would love some advice form traders please. From what started out as a hobby, I am now currently trading about £7000 a month on eBay, making about £800 after fees and stuff. The problem is I not think I should register for tax but Im a little naive, but a bigger issue is VAT. All items I buy are 2nd hand and therefore pay no VAT on at purchase, but if I go full time, and get VAT registered, do I have to pay 17.5% on all sales, therefore wiping out my profit margin?

Big thanks for any advice.

Cheers

Are VAT inspectors as bad as I hear? Are they human? Can they close down your business and seize your goods and chatels? They want to come and inspect my books.

Ok, I am in the UK, I win £5million on the lottery, and want to give £1million to my parents, my bro and a friend... will they be taxed on this? I asked this already and people started talking about inheritance tax... don't know why, I have no plans to die in the next 7 years, or even 50 years! If they can be taxed, to what amount, and how do I get round it?

I am decent individual (living in the UK) and just like everybody, I am paying taxes. I believe I am paying too much of it and I would like to claim the money back because I am entitled to it. How do I go about asking for a refund from the HMRC?
I am entitled to claims like:
1. washing my uniform at home
2. paying subscription to my trade union
3. paying a monthly gift aid to a charitable association

thanx
