I currently work in Malaysia, and am considering whether to take part of my salary paid into an offshore account. I understand that the element of my salary which will be paid offshore will not be subject to Malaysian tax.
However when/if I return to the UK, if I want to move the money to the UK (which I would have to in order to spend it) will I have to pay UK tax on the money? Is there a legal way round this?
As I believe local tax on income is less than UK tax, I can not see the benefit on having any of my salary paid into an offshore acount. (Surely it makes more sense to pay (lower) local tax on my income, then I can move it into the UK with no UK tax implications)
Most expat financial advisors appear to be gearred towards setting up offshore accounts and presumealby they are handsomely rewarded for doing so. Therefore I am looking for some neutral advice on this matter. At this stage I do not know how long I will remain outside of the UK, however another 2 years is very likl

Hi, I'm in the UK and have a trading account with an online brokerage to trade in the US. I did a trade and the brokerage automatically deduced 30% of the value and passed it on to the IRS in the USA. I should'nt be taxed as I am not a US resident or citizen. I clarified this with the brokerage and passed on to them a W8 BEN form to register my status. They told me if I wanted to claim back the amount, they could'nt do it, and that I would have to claim it from the IRS instead. How do I claim from the IRS? Can someone tell me how to go about doing this? Any help will be deeply appreciated !!!

i have a chance of a good job £300 per week ( unemployed at the moment )( what does that equate to after tax ? i am worried what the child support agency will take off it . i don`t pay any rent / bill`s etc . but i do have my child ( who is 14 now ) every weekend and all the school holiday`s . and i take him on a 2 week holiday every year to spain . but his mum is very akward and still has bad feelings towards me ( even though it was her who had an affair ) she will not inform the c.s.a of the times i have my son . i have told them but they have contacted her to ask if it is true and she has replied to them that i do not have him . she works so she knows that she will get any money paid to the c.s.a by me . how much would the c.s.a take from my wages after tax ?

Can't believe this - I'm trying to submit my tax return. When I went to the Govt Gateway log-in page my PC apparently "remembered" my password. But I've lost it, When I get to the final page to submit the return it asks for the ID & password again, and this time my computer doesn't "remember" the password. Can I find my own passowrd in my cookies - if so how - I cannot see a file that seems to resemble the web address.

what types of investments give you the tax benifit apart from tax free interest on ISA? For the higher rate tax payer, i presume it will be 2.5 times the amount one wants to avoid paying tax of. Please suggest such options and if anything that can be applied retrospectively say for financial year 05-06.
