I'm wondering if dating him would be a good idea since I think he might still be able to access my IRS returns and invade my privacy... Does anyone know someone who's worked for the IRS, or do you know if it would still be possible for him to access my records? Thanks, I appreciate any help on this topic.

I recently moved out of a shared house where my cat caused some damage to the carpet on the first floor landing. I believe this to be about 5 square metres and my landlord is now charging me £220 for this as well as £60 for fitting. I know its possible for carpet to cost this much however I am sure the original carpetting did not cost as much as this and I feel he is ripping me off. I am at the moment waiting for him to fax me details of the quote. What I want to know is what are my rights? Can I stop him from ripping me off? Only the money he is charging is nearly all of my deposit.
I am willing to pay for the damage but £300 is ridiculous.

By the way, I moved in there before April so the new law about deposits doesn't apply. I checked :(

My husband and I were so tired of renting that we got ourselves into an owner fianace deal. The home was DISGUSTINGLY dirty, I cleaned it for 2 weeks. We painted the entire home, all appliances were supposed to be replaced with new ones, instead they put used ones in and we had to pay for a new refrigerator after only a month. The dining room leaks in 4 different spots. It has no central air, so we put in a small window unit and it will not run because the breaker keeps tripping. We have had to pay to fix the dishwasher and when we talked to the owner, he stated, that we bought a used home. We did not have an inspection, and I feel totally helpless. I know we should have known better but we just wanted to own a home so bad that we jumped in. Now we want out, without ruining our credit. Can anyone help?????

I was fired almost a year ago where I only worked there for very few weeks. It was my first real career job. I already received the job and accepted it. Now I need to meet with HR and I have 5 references (none from previous job) They are all excellent and related to the job except it was mainly internships, independent study and volunteer work. However, some I have worked with for a year to several years. I plan on putting this job I was fired from on my application under employment history. Will they just verify this place or inquire info as well?? I already gave 5 refers so I see no need why they would even contact them and ask detailed questions. I do know they will only tell just little bit of info. But I am wondering if they will then ask me for the actual supervisor contact info? I hope not since I do not and will now use her as a ref or give consent too. If I decline could they force me. I just dont think she is capable of assessing my abilities since its was a very short time

It all started about 3 years ago. I was in the army, and I had a barracks phone. Upon relocating (pcs) to Korea, I paid the bill, then asked for the phone to be disconnected. Somehow, there must have been a delay in the phone company disconnecting the phone. It remained on for about 30 days. In that 30 days, phone calls were made from that phone line by the NEW soldier who moved into my old room. (I don't even know their name). I was OUT OF THE COUNTRY. The bill totaled $55, and I never even knew about it until last year when I got out of the Army. Since then, I have been harrassed consistently by a collection agency for the money. They placed a negative entry on my credit report, but I did not make the phone calls. Disputing the debt with the credit agencies didn't help; they couldn't prove the debts weren't mine. I ended up paying the $55. The collection agency took forever to send confirmation, claiming they didn't know my address.( but they'd been sending me letters for a year)

Help settle a debate now with a friend. She (age 29) has right at 100K in her 401K, and for reasons that don’t matter to the debate were guessing if she cashed out her entire 401K, it would leave her with about 70K. The basis for this is her understanding of how the full withdrawal works. She reads her company would keep 20% for federal tax, and you have the 10% early withdrawal.

I am telling her it would be more than that amount. I estimate her salary would put her above a 20% federal taxes hit, and was thinking it was more like 24%, and the state of IL would hit her for an additional 8% in taxes. I estimated she would be looking more at 58K after all was said and done with.

I also understand her company locks her out of the 401K plan for a full year. It is obviously a big mistake to totally drain her 401, but who is closer to the correct ‘end’ amount, after ALL taxes and penalties?

What is the best way to prepare for a job interview where you will meet with several people at the same time asking you a set of questions already prepared? I do not know the questions I just know how it is set up. I have all of the qualifications so how can I stand out and show them I am the one for the job. I really want this job and I do not want to be nervous!!

I work for my cousin and receive paychecks from him. I don't get any deductions on my paycheck and i have to file my own taxes come tax time. He files his own taxes as well. His book keeper sends me a w-2 showing how much i made and i go to my tax person and file a 10-99 and pay whatever i owe. Now since I fill up the car am i entitled to have tax deductions for gas with receipts? and i was also wondering can i have tax deductions for medical payments such as going to the dentist? I've paid a good amount this year for the dentist. I don't have any kind of health insurance or health coverage. How about a tax break since i go to college? Thanx for all the help.
