I could probably resolve my tax problems with a quick easy phone call to a human being. So far all the numbers and web info they provide only leads to more computers and recordings :-(

HELP! I need human intervention!

I have invested in Certificates for years and want to learn more about the difference between an IRA and a CD. Can someone explain these in more detail for me? What I am looking for is the best interest rate for my dollar. I don't need the money anytime soon, but don't want to be majorly penalized if I were in dire straights either.

Does anyone know where I can sell My textbooks back? I have about 5 text books that I need to sell they are in good condition. I don't want to post them on Ebay or Amazon or half.com. I'd sell them back at school but I've already missed my chance to do that until next year. I want a website that will just buy all of them in order to resell. I guess something like a whole sale!!!!

I'm currently job searching for a graphic design position. I wonder if my having a nose piercing would deter a potential employer from hiring me. Consider the grounds, business dress atmosphere, professional looking female with the skills and everything you're looking for in the specific position. Would a nose stud change your mind? Please explain your answer, if it's yes or no.

Through some unique circumstances I find myself working from home. The company I was working for told me to 1099 my services to them. My questions is since I live in L.A. county is it in my best interest to go 1099 or should I form a company and do business that way? I really want to know the pluses and minuses of both as far as taxes go. - Thanks for any response -

My landlord took me to small claims court yesterday for compensation for damages caused by a flood. The judge asked why the property insurance didn't cover it and the landlord mumbled... because we don't have insurance. At once the judge threw the case out and said that was unacceptable. Yay me!!

My question is... Is there a law stating property owner's must have insurance on their rental properties?

This house is falling down around our ears and we are now worried to stay. 2 weeks ago my husband fell through the base of the shower into the ground. The shower base gave way because the foundation below the house wasn't poured correctly. (Would you believe this house is only 7 months old?). Anyways, we are not wanting to sue, but we are worried to stay incase other damage or injuries occur. If it is the law, we are trying to find a way out of our lease now.

Thanks for any help you can provide!

I am a college student and I own my own business doing videography. I know that the minimum to file federal tax is $8,450 after all deductions have been accounted for (cameras, computers, etc).

What I do not understand is, if I make $8,451, would I pay tax on all of the money or only what exceeded the minimum of 8,450?

We moved this weekend. It had been planned for months. Friday night my husband's employer asked him to work Saturday night 3-midnight. Because he IS such a loyal, honest employee, he went to work despite the fact that we had to move. Around 9:30 pm, another employee crashed his forklift into my husband's. They sent them both to a drug test at Care Now. But, it was closed when he got there (they close at 8 or 9 pm). The next day, he went to take the drug test, but the place was close AGAIN- despite the fact that his "referral sheet" said the hours were from 10 am to 6 pm, and it was just after 5 pm when we arrived. So, he went yesterday. (The entire two days he continually checked in with his "lead man" and his "lead man" repeatedly told him that he "got his back" and not to worry.
Today, he showed up for work and they said he was being "let go" for refusing to take the drug test.
Is there absolutely no recourse for this injustice? Please help!! We need his job and his insurance!
