I want to move to New York when Im done with college. I want to do this the smart way by saving up some money to live off of till I get myself settled after moving there. I understand New York is a very high priced city. I'm willing to live in a crap shack, I pretty much do now. How much would you recommend for me to save up to be able to live off for a little bit till I were to get settled?

I'm not asking for an exact estimate. I understand that that would be impossible. It all depends on the apartment I were to get, how much food I were to eat, things like that, just a safe estimate would be greatly apreciated. Thanks for all the answers, weather they help or not!

I'm a college student. I'm 20 years old, and I'm thinking of relocating after I finish off my education.
I currently live in New York City (Brooklyn). I most of my life.
It's a nice place to live, I suppose, but I'm personally finding it very boring. Yes you're probably thinking how the hell could I get bored in NY, and I'd tell you because I'm not into night life AT ALL. I'm the outdoorsy type... not much of a clubber/bar-hopper.
Besides a few jogging trails and water-walks, theres not much to do for outdoor enthusiasts like me in NYC.
So I'm interested in moving to either Minneapolis, Denver, or Phoenix. All 3 cities have wonderful amounts of things to do outdoors. Minneapolis has countless lakes, Denver has the Rockies; 15 mins from Downtown, and Phoenix has the mountains actually in the city limits. I'd probably pick Phoenix, but I don't like the fact that the city is so auto-dependant.
I know all 3 cities have varying climates. I don't mind brutal cold or blazing heat.

I am traveling in New York and planning to stay at Hotel 17 because of our budget. I heard some good and bad reviews about it. The shared bathroom is what worries me but considering our budget, (we are staying for 5 nights) this is the best deal and more reasonable place we can find. Anyone has suggestion or opinions about that hotel?

OK so currently I live and work in Manhattan, NYC...but yesterday I went to view an apartment in a three family hourse about a mile or so from downtown Newark. I was impressed, 2 bedrooms, an included attic, bay windows, etc. floors varnished to a mirror like finish. GREAT PRICE!

Yet, when I shared with my friends about it, they all looked at me like I was crazy. "Didn't you hear about the crime rate over there? and about the old mayor who got into trouble for stealing funds, and the college kids who got killed, etc"

However, where I was didn't seem rough at all. It was next to the city hall, financial centers etc.

Should I listen to my friends (and the stats from an online crime stats website) and look elsewhere?

Or should I listen to my pocketbook and take the apartment?

I have a group of 4-8 people flying into Newark on Friday, the 21st. We plan to stay until Sunday the 23rd. We would like to visit NYC, specifically Manhattan. What is the cheapest way for 4-8 people to go into manhattan in the morning, and go back to the Newark area in the evening?

I told my children about my favorite ride at Chicago's Riverview Amusement Park, but I cannot remember the name of the ride (sorry, Riverview closed when I was about 6 years old). The ride was circular - looked like a big pot. People stood up against the wall and then the ride would begin to spin. As it spun faster people were pushed against the wall. Then the floor would DROP AWAY.(and everyone would scream). No one fell because the force of the spinning kept them pinned to the walls. Finally the floor would rise up again and the ride would slow down and then stop. The ride was great!

What was the name of this ride?
