Actually I have seen them both in daytime and nighttime. They look like a weird construction thing in the daytime, but they look really cool at night...

Oh my gosh, Paris.! Qu'est ce qu'il y a ? What is that stupid looking arch with the bicyclists riding under it? Here is a "simple" answer.. There are sure some off the wall non cultural stoners out there.
The L,A. and X letters were set up as there was no real way established to welcome visitors from Lynwood and other places by automobile and by aircraft into LAX and Los Angeles. They were recently removed and painted with a more durable paint as the city painters found themselves constantly going over them with still another coat of gloss paint....plus some electrical issues persisted.

They are light columns that were built when the democratic national convention was in Los Angeles a few years back.

Yes, they are decorations. I didn't realize they are bongs, but they are probably a monument to them.

California was one of the first states to end the prohibition on marijuana. (*for medical uses.)

A night they change colours. It's really pretty. Probably to entertain the people using marijuana - I love this city!

They are just ugly light poles someone thought would look decorative. I personally disagree.
