The homeless are just that, homeless. Well, often there is an underlying cause of their homelessness: mental illness, drug use.

I spent many years at VCU (a total of 9, between full and part time attendance) and I really did not have any problem with the homeless. However gender and body type probably had something to do with that.

I will give you that your route is populated and well lit at all times. Plenty of people driving by, a few stores and restaurants, a good number of people and students hanging out. I think that your route is safe.

But, always keep a presence of mind about yourself. Keep aware, not just walking to your destination, but at other places also. If you see someone that skeeves you out or sets off those warning bells in the back of your head, cross the street, double back, do what ever you need to keep distance from them. Be safe, everywhere.

I hope that my advice helped. Good luck!
