I'm 15. Do I need to have both parents present when I apply for my passport? My dad lives in Maine, but my parents aren't divorced or separated. Can just my mom take me to get my passport? Is it different for each state?

I will drive from SF on 11/22/06, do not wish to waste too much time to detour, so is there anything that's not too far away from I-5 and interesting that i can stop in between? city, farm, tourist attraction, national park, Will do.
