The press often refers to players like Ferrero as "clay court specialists" which always sounds like a cut. As if clay is in some way inferior to other surfaces.

Im irish and here we play gaelic football and its the biggest sport here although it is completly amatuer(although the players do get heavily rewarded in their jobs if they are high profile county players). The BBC did an undercover special on dog fighting in Northern Ireland last night and it turned out that one of the top players(Ger Cavlan) from one of the countries top four football teams(tyrone) was the ringleader of a huge cross Europe dog fighting ring.

They showed one of the fights and anyone here who thinks what vick, or cavlan for that matter did, is no big deal really should watch it to see the sick brutality of those fights and the types of lo lifes that are involved in organising it. It was sick with blood everywhere and tearing skin and crunching bones and a fight between two dogs that went on 45minutes.

Seriously what the f*ck is wrong with those guys? Are they that inadequate that they have to watch two dumb animals tear each other apart to get their kicks?

Okay before you read this don't start the yankee's suck and boston rules ****!! This is a serious question and i wan't some good opinions.

I'm not a Yankee fan or a Boston fan I'm a tigers fan but there's something that urk's me a little.

Joe Torre is praised by people to be one of the best coaches in the majors and that he's so great and all of these things but little do people remember he was 894-1003 before he went to coach the yankee's.

Do you think that he is a good coach or do you just think that he is one of those cases of being in the right place at the right time?? (or just having all the best players?)

If it's simply an assumption that all athletes are better today, I don't know if there's any point to discussing it.
But I look at the generally much better mechanics and leg kick of earlier pitchers, check the stats, watch documentaries and clips, read extensively on baseball history...and I simply cannot see it.
I don't think that old-time players are automatically better. But I don't think they're automatically worse, either.

So what would lead someone to claim that pitchers today are simply better? Is it evidence or ignorance?

Whoever helps me understand this best will get the points and the thanks of a grateful nation.

They planted spied in scoreboards to steal signs of the opponent. They would hold on to uniforms to slow down baserunners.

Ever Heard of the spitball? Baseballs being scuffed? Corked bats? Using vaseline, razors, articles to scuff the ball?

If you deny this you are no baseball historian. McGwire, Bonds, Sosa.....on to the Hall of Fame. Mantle would have done it if he thought it would have improved his bad knees.

These guys used beer to cool off before there were airconditioned clubhouses. These guys WOULD have taken any competitive advantage available to them....and you know it!

going into yesterdays game (i dont know if he still is) had 9 home runs, 49 rbi, and is not in the top five fielding shortstops, so what is so great. Yankee fans dont talk about the past cuz that is all you ever do. (i.e. 26 rings)

Because PLAYERS are never good role models, I mean most of us do not know anything about their background.
I feel for Mike and I hope he can play again, he's fun to watch and I would hate to see this guy lose 20 million dollars because the NFL thinks he is a bad role model, when the NFL is also a corrupt business.

So I am a goalie, and have pretty nice skates, and last time i was on the ice, i dried my skates but didnt put my skate guards on because I couldnt find them. Now I'm taking them on a cruise with an ice rink on Sunday so i can have my skates, and the one has rust only on the bottom. I was wondering how you can take it off without damaging the blade. Im very anal about these things and Im really freaking out about it. haha thanks

I remember watching f1 races and thinking such and such was going to win and then seeing a huge ploom of smoke and then seeing the leader pull off and either being distraught if it was a jordan or delighted if it was someone i didnt like.

It really added to the excitement and unpredictability of the races. I know i was incredibly frustrated when Fisichella retired from Hockenheim in 97 while in second and Frentxen while leading in the nurburgring 99 but that was part of the sport and it made it oh so entertaining and unpredictable. Similarly i was ecstatic when a car would drop out and allow one of my guys through. Espiecially when an engine would go BOOM! its just a cool sight.

Why do the FIA want the cars to be more reliable? The building of engines/gearboxes is only a tiny fraction of the developmental costs. I say let them push the engines to the extreme and if they explode so be it let that be their punishment. None of this 10 place grid demotion nonsense.
