So I am a goalie, and have pretty nice skates, and last time i was on the ice, i dried my skates but didnt put my skate guards on because I couldnt find them. Now I'm taking them on a cruise with an ice rink on Sunday so i can have my skates, and the one has rust only on the bottom. I was wondering how you can take it off without damaging the blade. Im very anal about these things and Im really freaking out about it. haha thanks

It'll probably come off if you get them sharpened. Try getting them done by sunday and you'll be good.

Use steel wool to get the rust off and then use some very fine metal finishing sandpaper to polish it. You can then either apply a coating of protector to the metal, like clear coat on a car. I always dry my skates thoroughly, wrap the blades in old hockey socks, and air them as soon as I get home to prevent further problems.

A wet rag rub down ought to do it. I never had goalie skates but are they really good for public skating? It seems like you'll be taking turns wider than a tug boat?

A damp washcloth sometimes works (or extra hockey sock) - as mentioned above.

WARNING: Don't use a stone on them, if you've never used one before, or been taught how to use one.

If they're really bad take them to a skate shop and get them sharpened before your trip.

Good Luck

it depends on where the rust is....if it is on the side of the blade then a simple sharpening stone will work....if it is on the bottom or the stone doesnt work just get them sharpened at your local hockey shop
