I think this current group is good, but I don't think they'd win a single game against the original Dream Team. And I think anyone who believes otherwise has a selective memory or didn't watch the original team play.

The 2007 group has some truly great players like Kobe and Lebron, but the 1992 roster had 4 HOFers - Magic, Larry Bird, Drexler and Barkley - along with 7 others who are likely to get in (MJ, Pippen, David Robinson, John Stockton, Chris Mullin, Patrick Ewing and the Mailman). Only Christian Laettner (a college choice at the time) won't end up enshrined.

My guess is that the 2007 team wouldn't be able to handle the defensive pressure of the 1992 team. They had dominating big men inside in Ewing and Robinson, as compared to Tyson Chandler on the current team. And guys like MJ and Pippen were great pressure defenders. Of course, the 1992 group could also score at will against the current group's often-shaky defense.

I'd take the original Dream Team by 10-15 points every game. While the current version beats a watered down version of Argentina, the Americans won the 1992 final by 32 points over a very strong Croatian team with guys like Dino Rada, Toni Kukoc and Drazen Petrovic.

the original dream team will win it in probably 5 or 6 games..

for the simple fact that the original dream team has players who are the leaders of their respective teams and knows how to play real team basketball both in offense and defense...

Start with three of the game's all-time greats: Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson and Larry Bird. Add the irrepressible Charles Barkley for a little spice, as well as seven more NBA All-Stars: centers David Robinson and Patrick Ewing, power forward Karl Malone, swingmen Scottie Pippen, Chris Mullin and Clyde Drexler and point guard John Stockton. Complete the roster with Christian Laettner, the best college player of 1991-92 and a future NBA All-Star.

with 2007 USA team, some are not even in the top 3 in any stat for their team (prince, chandler)... and one of them has an ego way above the roof(kobe).. another fact is that today's USA team is too young to play against a team who are, at that time, were at their prime...

Dream team 1 was the best dream team to be put together. They had a great mix of players and they were willing to do whatever needed to win. This years team is good and could be great but right now they aren't even playing the teams that BEAT them last summer. And they only scored 91 points last night. Dream team 1 had players that only cared about winning and nothing else, we'll see how they new Dream team does against the better teams in the world.

Never! Dream Team 1 had everyone, out of 7 games dream team 1 would win all 7.

Dream Team 1 knew how to play together...Greatest team ever assembled (as long as you remember to send Christian Laetner out to pick up Nachos for the rest of the team). The original team would slaughter the current team.

Best of 7 would probably go 4-1 in favor of Dream Team 1 if not an outright sweep.

The Dream Team has an edge because of all of the experience they had going in. The team that we're watching now is still relatively young and unproven. I think they would hang, but in the end the Originals would win 4-2

I think you answered this statement when you asked the question. The team we have now is just the "2007 USA Basketball Team" the one back in 92 was the "Dream Team."

And with the way Carmelo is ball hoggin, no way 2007 has a shot!!!

1992 Dream Team would win easily. Heart, desire, determination, sheer will, and a nasty attitude would overwhelm those youngsters. Kobe, Carmelo and company are fun to watch but give me Magic, Michael, Bird, Barkley, and the rest of the HALL OF FAMERS in 5 games. The size of the big men would be a serious disadvantage for the 2007 squad. Stoudamire and Dwight Howard trying to guard Ewing, Olajuwon, or even David Robinson would be too funny. Give me experience over quickness. One thing for sure: The 2007 team would LEARN A VALUABLE LESSON not to ever take OLD SCHOOL for granted.

Dream Team 1 would win atleast 5 outta 7 coz Team USA is nothing compared to legends like Chamberlain, Jordan, Johnson, KA Jabbar, Russell,Wilkins, etc. These guys would shred them to bits.
Kobe's shooting would be no match for Jabbar's/Chamberlain's high blocks or great rebounding capacity, Lebron's dunks would be whole heartedly blocked by Chamberlain, Jordan would go on scoring along with Magic leaving Amare and the defense dazzled. Balls would be easily stolen from Arenas and Jordan would lead his team to Victory!

No team in the planet no matter how long they prepare can beat the 1992 Dream Team. It's a total mismatch.

Btw, "basketball is my religion" - Olajuwon is not in the 1992 team. He was still a Nigerian citizen at the time. He eventually played in the 1996 version, after getting his citizenship, that won gold in the Atlanta Olypmics.
