Because PLAYERS are never good role models, I mean most of us do not know anything about their background.
I feel for Mike and I hope he can play again, he's fun to watch and I would hate to see this guy lose 20 million dollars because the NFL thinks he is a bad role model, when the NFL is also a corrupt business.

He should not have done what he done, it was wrong, but i think society being to hard on him. Most of us act like its the first time we haver ever heard of dogfighting. How many people have you ever heard of actually going to jail for cruelty to animals? Not often. Usually you get a fine of a couple thousand dollars at most. Why cant Vick get a fine? Look it up yourself and let me know how many get convicted and spend jail time! Be fair America. NFL should not kick him out, just a suspension is good. Some of you act like he Jeffery Dahlmer or something.

"I feel for Mike and I hope he can play again, he's fun to watch and I would hate to see this guy lose 20 million dollars because the NFL thinks he is a bad role model, when the NFL is also a corrupt business."

Are you kidding me??? You feel for this guy? The guy killed hundreds of dogs and most of them were tortured before they were actually killed. He also tortured kittens. What kind of person supports someone that does something like that??? I really cant believe anyone in this freakin world, especially this country, would still support that piece of #$%^ michael vick.

Also, you say you would hate to see this guy lose 20 million dollars. I hope he loses everything!!! I wish our legal system was more of "an eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth". I would love to see that guy chained to a post or something and let some of our best UFC fighters beat the crap out of him, then torture is freakin #$%.

I hope he never ever plays football again! I know people make mistakes, but this is nowhere near a mistake. He is a grown man that obviously doesn't respect animals or has any idea of how lucky he is to have so much money for playing freakin football.

God! People like you disgust me!

Cruel? I don't think there is ANY business that you can be convicted of a major felony and they're not going to throw the book at you. All the NFL has done is suspend him, and his contract is going to be voided- but he'll probably still get paid 30 million dollars for getting kicked off the team when it's all said and done.

So getting 30 million of a 130 million dollar contract, when you violated the terms is cruel? Sign me up, dude. If I could drop my cell phone contract and they'd be like "Well, you stopped paying- but you can still have cell phone service for 30% of the time we agreed t o" I would be like "SWEET, FREE CELL PHONE MINUTES."

So basically, Vick lied to his boss (about a felony, no less), is unable to play due to legal troubles (which are his own fault), and violated the terms of his labor contract (which voids his contract). He's lucky that his contract is built in such a way that he can defend any of that money. The twenty million he's trying to keep is in pro-rated "performance bonuses." So the Falcons are supposed to pay him for what? His "performance" on the state lockup team?

To be quite honest, if Vick had any class or real contrition- he would step up and either say "I am sorry for what I have done, I know I have let the fans down and left my team without a QB and I am sorry. You can keep the money, I do not derserve it- use it to help the team." Or he should demand the money but promise it to charity. These are the kind of things someone who legitimately want to play again- they show it.

A good example: Shoeless Joe Jackson, though not even convicted, was banned from baseball. Forever. But he was stated that he would have played the game for free. For FREE. That is a heck of a lot more drive than fighting for money that you're not even playing to earn. So, what happened to Shoeless Joe was moderately cruel. What is happening to Vick is a slap on the wrist- they aren't even discussing a lifetime ban.

So no, a no-conditions lifetime ban would be somewhat cruel. But on the other hand, if he couldn't compete and he was one of his own dogs... well, let's just say it could be a lot worse.

If I plead guilty to what he did I would lose my job. That is part of the agreement I signed when I started work.

His violations went against the code of conduct rule his employer has set, thus he should face the consiquences. I hold up my behavior for a measly $50k/year I think he should be able to do it for a $130 million contract. And this is just the for the rules the NFL has in place. Not going to even get into the moral issues.

And I am sick of the people saying they should not be role models. Ask any athlete who he looked up to when he was a kid. It was other athletes. They are hypocrates.

Cruel? Vick broke the law, several laws to be exact and he needs to face the consequences. I think it is a good thing that the new commissioner, Goodell, is cracking down on players violating the law. The league does not need the negative publicity nor do they need the likes of Vick or Pacman Jones in the league. I say good riddance.

Not Good Role Models?

There are TONS of great Players that are great role models

my favorite Cal Ripken Jr.

Tony Gwynn, Tiger Woods, and it's too damn early to think so other poster can add to my list.

As for Vick, if he has served his time, and suspension, he should play again. It's all about $$$, for the player , the team and the organization...

Look, the guy is a *** hole and should be hung like the dog's but the truth of the matter is.

HE SHOULD NOT AHVE TO GIVE THE 20 MILLION BACK!
He has brought more money to that team than 20 million dollars and a signing bonus is a signing bonus!!! Not his contract where they pay so much for every year!! He signed and he get's the money and since he has made that team well more than 20million dollars let the man serve his time!! Let him keep the money and when he pays his debt to society he should be able to play again! (not that a team will take him anyway)

Are you on crack? Awwww, poor Vick, he won't be able to afford all of his bling, and his entourage may have to go get jobs........... As for good role models, Steve Mcnair, Peyton Maning, Warrick Dunn, Tom Brady, LT, shall I continue? There are plenty of excellent role models for all ethnic points of view in each sport, as there is also plenty of poor role models.
Michael Vick is a convicted felon, and deserves the molestation he will recieve in prison. Bubba needs love to.

The guy isn't just a bad role model - He is a criminal! He slaughtered dogs!!! There is a difference between being a bad role model and being a criminal... A bad role model may do stuff like drink heavily or ride a motorcycle without a helmet. A criminal does something illegal - like fight and slaughter dogs!

Absolutely not.. Playing in the NFL is a privilege, not a god given right. When you commit a felony, you need to be suspended. When he serves his time, he will possibly be reinstated. That said, I don't know who he will play for, and it gives a whole new meaning to " Who let the Dogs Out?"

No Michael Vick was being cruel to Michael Vick, he decided on his own that being actively and personally involved in illegal activities was worth risking his livelyhood over. Bad decision
