I am a 34-35 year old female living in greece. I used to be an athlet in 100m speed runs. first i swam in sea and then i walked. i was always good with balance sports like bmx cykling, roller plates, skaye board. generally i am flegible and i have good sense of balance. I used to run on rocky hills and the mountains of Greece. I also used to dive a lot. Snorkling but not using ogygen bottles and stuff.BUT the last 7 years of my life i have been dealing with health problem due to depression and overstress and i have lost my physical fitness. I am overweighted and not fit at all. Now that therapy is completed i start plain walking excersising so slowly but gradually my body comes to a fit condition again.
I am thinking of taking a trip toAustralia if aeverything will be fine in 2 years. Do you thing that someone like me could manage to surf a little in the Australian waters????
Thank you for your time to read this and answer me

What do other people wear on their feet when surfing this time of year? I'm new to "proper" surfing but would wear wetsuit boots in my sailing dinghy and fin sock with my bodyboard, however what gives the best purchase on a longboard? bare feet or one of the above?
Thanks

So i was at the beach today and saw a kite boarder. you think if someone goes to the beach as much as i do, they would have been amazed by a kite boarder waay before now, but I decided i REALLY want to learn. Problem is i dont know where to start, where to get lessons, what i need, so on...Surfing is big in my family but i never personally have done it so will i need to do that first? Can anyone tell me the pros and cons of it and the dangers or whatever. Can anyone tell me basic kite setup, operation, maintenance, kite size and type considerations, and operation of safety systems or of instructors in the SoCal regions who can or recommend good instructors. Places around Newport or huntignton are ideal. Is it illegal there?i know it is at some beaches.Wow, i wrote alot but hey, im curious so As much info as possible would be great!

I want to try surfing if I ever get the chance, but I'm not sure I'm a good enough swimmer to do so. I can swim of course, but I'm not great at it. I've only swum in the ocean once (I live in Minnesota), so I don't know if I have what it takes to come up after being taken down by a wave.

You can paddle out in waves most people have nightmares about...
You have strenght comparable to a bear, but only for endurance and short outbursts of paddling.....
You can stand up and stay up on Anything..far longer than anyone else- so, supernatural sense of balance....
Syncronise your speed to that of a moving wall of water etc....

But are any of these skills useful?
Or will you always come across as a wan*ker to the eyes of the common land-walker....??

Like the title says, I've got a wetsuit that is fine when it's dry. Once it's wet though and I come in from a session, it reeks like no other. Anyone have a good trick for getting the smell out without harming the suit itself?

Hi there!

I have a qustion about recent high technological wetsuits.
Every wetsuits company tend to compete for making a wormest wetsuit ever but there are areas that change seasons like Northern California.

I surf in South ocean beach SF, CA and Pacifica, CA. Now I am buying a wetsuits and interested in O'neill Psycho II and Billabong Solution Platinum.
Needless to say, they both work perfectly in winter season of the Northern California. But what about in summer? I suspect that it is too hot in the summer season.

Do you think I don't need the super-duper warm wetsuits for using both in summer and winter in Northern California and it is just OK to buy a wetsuits that is price point down?
Do I need to buy two type of suits for each season?

Please please advice me!!

Thank you.

Yoshi

Hey guys, looking for some help on buying a surfboard. I'm 6ft, 183-189lbs. I'm looking for a short board. I'm a beginner but will pick it up soon and already have been out a couple of times on a long board and cought some waves. I'm in good shape (athletic ability, do skateboarding, snowboarding, Thai boxing, and general fitness).

Someone told me that a good rule of thumb is to get a board that's at least 6 inches higher than your height...

Wandering if that's true, and just in general, what would be a size good for me if I want to surf on a short board, do a lot of carves, etc.
