I am a 34-35 year old female living in greece. I used to be an athlet in 100m speed runs. first i swam in sea and then i walked. i was always good with balance sports like bmx cykling, roller plates, skaye board. generally i am flegible and i have good sense of balance. I used to run on rocky hills and the mountains of Greece. I also used to dive a lot. Snorkling but not using ogygen bottles and stuff.BUT the last 7 years of my life i have been dealing with health problem due to depression and overstress and i have lost my physical fitness. I am overweighted and not fit at all. Now that therapy is completed i start plain walking excersising so slowly but gradually my body comes to a fit condition again.
I am thinking of taking a trip toAustralia if aeverything will be fine in 2 years. Do you thing that someone like me could manage to surf a little in the Australian waters????
Thank you for your time to read this and answer me

You can learn to start surfing at any age, just as long as your body can stand it. Go out and learn how to surf and just plain have fun. Happy New Year.

I definitely Think you can start to surf....I am a woman a little older than you and have also suffered a grim illness (cancer). I am a 3rd degree black belt and was also thinking about surfing. the cancer ate a lot of my body and i became extremely skinny and weak. I am now back to my martial arts training and I think i want to try surfing this summer....it took a while for my body to regain it's strength, it was the insecurity of returning that sort of held me back..Now 3 years later I am testing for my 4th degree...You can do this

I believe it has a lot to do with confidence.....you sound like a very talented athlete and i think you will have a blast down under......

GO FOR IT DUDE!!!!!!

Thats a long list. You better call KFC and order a bucket of chicken and try and figure out where all the money is going to come from to do all that. You must be able to think of more FREE ones or more not so expensive ones. Go for 100.

yes if you say what you've really done i think you should still be fit enough to learn how to surf, you just have to stick to it and never give up. also make sure that you learn in a beginner spot

looking at what u've done it shouldn't be too hard for u to start, but start practicing in greece before going down under, unless u want to break a few bones

Of course, it's fun no matter the skill level. You may start out w/ a bodyboard if more comfortable. it's hoe I started because my Dad wasn't about to pack a full size surfboard in car w/ the whole family when I was a kid. Then when I started driving myself to tha beach I bought a surfboard. I still enjoy the Boogies tho. I think I may get more excercise with it than the surfboard when in a consistant shorebreak. Legs are used very heavily to shove around in rips. Then i'll swim a while on a longboard for my arms. Both are very aerobic. BTW I'm 47.

You can absolutely start surfing at your age. In fact, it may be exactly what you need to snap you out of depression. Once you catch that first wave, it flips a little switch inside of you and you view the world differently. Or at least it did for me.

The only problem is living in Greece. They don't get much surf there but I did read an article not too long ago about there being some good breaks and there is a small group of locals who surf there.
