His record speaks for itself. He's beat Michigan, even with average talent teams 4 out of the last 5 years running. He's taken OSU to a bowl game every year and lost only 1 or 2. He took them to the Championship Game twice in five years and won it the second year out of the gate.

i think Jim Tressel has great coaching ability. He runs probably the best formations on offense i have ever seen and has had great defenses also. He knows how to win and it seems he is almost always making the right playcall which is very hard to do. Most coaches only call the right play about 75-80% of the time (which is still very good) Jim Tressel is always in the game and knows what he is doing

As much as I dislike OSU, I have no problem in admitting that Tressel is a great coach. He was a winner at Youngstown State, and he's proven very quickly that he can win at the top level.

The game that really proved his abilities was their national championship victory over Miami a few years ago. That was a Hurricanes squad full of future NFLers that should have stomped the Buckeyes. But, Tressel totally outcoached Larry Coker and installed a gameplan that allowed Krenzel to make safe plays and not turn over the ball. I was also impressed with the job he did last season, as I thought the team achieve more than their talent level would have predicted.

Linz,
as a Southern Cal Trojan I can appreciate what Coach Tressel brings to the table. I do however think that with their beating they took from Florida at the BCS game that Michigan had a legitimate complaint about not being considered for the title game. Yes, I know and I can hear some of you say (if not yell at me) "But they beat Michigan", and UCLA beat USC by a mere 4 points on a "fluke" game (quoted by Lee Corso and others on College Game Day). The thing is when thinking of this critically had the BCS (Boy Computers Suck) system put Michigan in that final game I think Coach Carr could have pulled it out and won the title against Florida. OSU did not give Michigan the spanking they themselves received on January 8th 2007.

However, this all aside - I "think" Coach Tressel is an excellent coach and terrific leader for the kids that play at OSU.

I am ready for the "thumbs down" now from a lot of you - but this is my answer.

Fight ON! Go USC,
Gerry :)

he has proven himself a good coach. With the talent he gets, it makes the job easier. The major knock on him and the knock on Lloyd Carr for that matter, is that they don't adjust well to wrinkles and schemes that other teams use. Urban Meyer and Florida did that to Ohio state in the BCS. Also Tressel can be arrogant like Pete Carroll is at times. He feels the other team will wear down or can't keep having success against them. You could see it against florida. They kept putting heat on Troy Smith with different people and OSU did nothing at halftime to change that or slow the gators up.

I think Coach Tressel is underestimate the same way our team is. It doesn't matter what kind of season we have, we will never get the respect we deserve because of being in the Big 10 Conference. It doesn't matter though, I will always bleed scarlett and grey!!!

He won two division 2 national titles and has a division 1 national title. He has had the buckeyes in the top 10 since he has been at OSU. And the big thing he has beat Michigan. I think he is in the top 10 of D-1 coaches in the country.

I'm a true blue UM fan, but I have to say he has done a great job restoring the program after the firing of Cooper. I remember seeing his speech at the halftime of a basketball game where he promised to beat UM and thought he was just another blowhard talking crap, but he has backed it up to the point where we, as UM fans, are wanting Lloyd Carr out of Ann Arbor. So I think he's a great coach and can't wait for him to leave Columbus for the NFL or something :)

I think he is one of the best coaches in College Football but I did question the team's game plan against Florida last year.

I agree with Given2fly but I'm in wait and see mode this year. This year's crop is really very green as compared to last year. We shall see.
