going into yesterdays game (i dont know if he still is) had 9 home runs, 49 rbi, and is not in the top five fielding shortstops, so what is so great. Yankee fans dont talk about the past cuz that is all you ever do. (i.e. 26 rings)

He just gets it done, what pisses off all the rest of us fans of other teams is that he gets credit for stuff he does not do. I have never seen him leap a giant building but they give him credit for it!

He has been clutch in the right times in the past and that is what he is remembered for by everyone...you turn on ESPN and he is making that stupid flip to Posada where Posada misses the tag and they call out Baby Giambi anyway.

This question is overrated if it is a question at all. What is your point O redsox fan? I tell you what I'd rather have hime than Julio Lugo? whatcha say about that. How bout the flip catch that he made against Oaklland in the 2001 ALDS? That ranks as one of the best plays ever - ESPN, Sporting News etc. You just sound like another jealous Redsox fan ranting about something on the Yankees without any merit.

If I'm starting to put together a team, a guy like Jeter would be who I would build it around. Sure there are guys with better numbers, better fielders perhaps. But there isn't a better leader or baseball mind playing the game today. Jeter is a gem, a guy who understands the game like few do or ever did. He is a great asset to baseball and to sports in general. This guy is class.

And I don't even like the Yankees!

Jeter is hitting 8 points above his career average...that is a telling sign that his best years are behind him. Man, people are such morons, like Steven L below me. He has played 148 games or more every year except one. He is not injury prone. By the end of September his final numbers will look nearly the same as every other year he has played. When he hits .275 for two consecutive years, then I would say his best years are behind him. Ask anyone in baseball if they think Jeter is overated. They will laugh in your face.

Give me a ******* break.. I’m not a Yankees fan and actually despise them but Jeter is one of the best SS so play the game and someday will get that title to himself. I don’t know where “his good years are behind him” talk is coming from either. Someone who is overrated doesn’t hit .325 and have a .400 OBP. I read somewhere that had Jeter and Ichiro on the same list. What a sad world this is.

Derek Jeter is a good overall player, maybe he's had some bad games, but he has a good batting average and he is a good fielder, however it's hard to answer this question without looking at his past, he's also a good team leader though... I dont think he's overrated.

Yes he is, he's always been overrated. He gets slightly injured and sits out for a game or two. Miguel Tejada plays through the pain! He can barely make throws from the hole anymore has way too many errors, and isn't even the best short stop on the team! How sad is that. Jeter has an arm of a second basemen he needs to be moved over. I heard the announcers on ESPN talking about Jeter saying he'd get 4,000 hits yeah right Jeter is too injury proned too even come close he'll be lucky to get 3,000.

First of all, Jeter isn't a home run hitter. He doesn't typically hit a lot of home runs, so that isn't news to me. He isn't now, never has been, and never will be overrated. So, he's having a little bit of an off year. In case you didn't notice, the whole team is having some what of an off year.

His RBI count is low because Damon sucked all year and hes right after Damon. If Damon would have had a good year with his doubles, Jeter would have been way up there in RBIs.

Ok I am a total Red Sox fan however, I think that Derek Jeter is a good player. But I hate him. He is very cocky and he walks onto the field like hes all that. I think thats what makes people think hes so great. He's good, but he's not really above average. Plus, he's on the yankees, so he has to suck
