I want my kids to believe that a higher power cares for them. Of course, this is a lie, since there is obviously no such thing as Zeus, Angels, etc. So, am I abusing them by telling them that there is a god?

I have some friends who are atheist Jews, but I don't understand how that is possible.

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
John 1:2 The same was in the beginning with God.
John 1:3 All things were made by Him; and without Him was not any thing made that was made.

John 1:4 In Him was life; and the life was the light of men.
John 1:5 And the light shines in the darkness; and the darkness did not comprehend it.

Questions:
What is this “life” that the writer is talking about?
What does the “light of men” mean?
What is this “darkness”, and why did the darkness not “comprehend” the light?

"Our Bible reveals to us the character of our God, with my remorseless exactness. The portrait is substantially that of a man, if one can imagine a man charged, and overcharged, with evil impulses far beyond the human limit. His acts expose his vindictive, unjust, ungenerous, pittiless, and vengefull nature, constantly. He is always punishing, punishing innocent children for the misdeeds of their parents, punishing unoffending populations for the misdeeds of their rulers. It is perhaps the most damnatory biography that exists in print, anywhere. It makes Nero an angel of light, by contrast." - Mark Twain

Also please tell me which version of the bible you are reading from, King James Version, Revised Standard Version, or whatever.

"…you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. I have a friend in the UK where I thought about this, who is educating me in other views, knowledge that i find very profound and of his knowledge of the bible. Some may not agree with it that of religion and his views, Do you as christians practice the views that of reflecting christ or are you quick to past off judgement to label a person? Who is your brother? People of religion love is the greatest commanment of them all, can you still tolerate love with opposing views of those on answers without becoming negative? I find in myself the wrongs I have and I work at correcting them. What are your views? I love you all and to end this question Christ surrendered his life not for just one religious group but God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, notice that HE SO LOVED THE WORLD! Can we all agree on that?

John 1:2 The same was in the beginning with God.
John 1:3 All things were made by Him; and without Him was not any thing made that was made.

Questions:
Why does this Gospel writer (John) use the word “Word”?
How can this “Word” be with God at the same time as being God?
Why did he change from “Word” in verse 1 to “Him” in verse 3?
Why didn’t he just come right out and say “Jesus” rather than using the word “Word”?

I only ask because I'm tired of people saying "evolution is just a theory", without substantiating what makes creation a more credible answer.
Real answers please.

Every couple of years churches make huge money off of scaring the heck out of people by telling them about the world ending or preaching Revs. HOW can Christians reconcile that NOTHING previously predicted has happened?

According to Watchtower Dogma, Jesus returned in 1918 reviewing all the churches of the world and supposedly chose the Watchtower Society to be the only "true" religion and to be God's sole channel of communication.

Sice you beleive the following to be wrong, how could Jesus have found you to be the "true" religion if:

1.) You were celebrating his birthday (which you claim was pagan)? JWs celebrated Christmas until the late '20s.
2.) Birthdays were celebrated until the late '50s.
3.) Patritoism wasn't stopped until the late '20s.
4.) You believed Jesus died on a cross until the late '30s.
5. Charles Taze Russel was a phrenologist and pyramidoligist (occult practices).
6. After Charles' death in 1916 The Watchtower was into necromancy.

Surely if these are wrong/bad, Jesus would have told you about these when he returned in 1918. Why would he have let you contintue these beliefs and practices 10+ more years?

Pope Pius IX Defines Immaculate Conception as Dogma (on THIS day, December 8th, in 1854) exactly 153 years ago today.

The Immaculate Conception is often confused with the Virgin Birth of Jesus, though the two Christian doctrines deal with entirely different events.

The Immaculate Conception asserts that Mary, the mother of Jesus, was preserved from the stain of original sin at the moment of her conception, was filled with grace by God, and lived her life completely free from sin.

This was decided by the Catholic church. I'm notsure where fundamental bible believing protestants will find proof of that in Holy Scriptures.

Can you quote chapter and verse for Mary's unexplainable devine sinlessness? If it is true, and I doubt that, did sinlessness continue after His birth?

The "Virgin Birth", on the other hand, asserts what about the conception of Jesus?

For that matter, where does the Word of God say that Josep's wife Mary STAYED a virgin, as Catholics do teach?

My American Government teacher is from Iran and he explained all about Muslims and President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. He showed us his speech in New York and explained why they are so outraged. I think if more Americans were openminded and listen the world would be a better place. I may only be 16 but I think I am alot smarter than most adults.

We know that the Blue states didn't go for Bush and that there is a pretty firm correlation between Red states being more religious and Blue states being less so. What are the top 15 states for high rates of teen pregnancy? All Red. Of the 16 lowest rates, all but three were Blue states (including the bottom 6):
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2004/12/6/145758/107
Furthermore, the rate of teen pregnancies in the U.S. is twice as high as any other industrialized nation:
http://www.guttmacher.org/pubs/fb_teens.html
The above study concluded "U.S. teenagers have higher STD rates than teenagers in other developed countries—for example, England, Canada, France and Sweden—because they have more sexual partners and probably lower levels of condom use." Sweden had the lowest rates of both teen pregnancies and STDs.
Now, cross-reference that to the fact that the U.S. is the most religious industrialized nation and Sweden among the least: http://www.umich.edu/~urecord/0304/Nov24_03/15.shtml

A soul controls our thinking, feelings and our actions...It is all we ever were and all we will be..It is who and what we are today..It is a blend of what we have been through in our lives..The way we processed those situations...And what those choices made us...
our soul is our higher self...
Our soul will be tempered with wisdom, over the passage of time..
But only if we have learned life's lessons...You hear words like Beautiful, Dark, Old, Compassionate, Loving,..As attachments to a persons soul...This is a look into their life....and how they Handel it...They are all steps in the evolvement of a soul.....The old soul has been here before and learned life's lessons well...The old soul is Beautiful....Tempered with wisdom, compassion, It is strong yet gentle...It is what we should strive for the balance of all aspects of life..To have our soul become one with all life..The Eyes are the window to the soul....Look deep into the eyes of those in your life....
feel what is inside them.....
Strive to be one with all things.....

Satan is the ultimate enemy, thus loving him would be the ultimate fullfillment of Christ's call to "love your enemy".

One more question. Is "love your enemy" a doctrine of self-loathing which belies a pathology of low self esteem, depression, of suicide wish?
