I have heard the argument from theists/creationists that the probability of the universe being fined tuned to our specifications without God would be astronomically low (anthropic principle); this argument can also apply to evolution too. And no, I did not copy and paste this. But trust me it is worth the length.

One of the standard atheist arguments against this is that calculating these odds after the fact is no argument whatsoever. To better explain what this means, just think about the probability of you, as of today, being how you are. Not only do you have to include the myriad combinations of genes during meiosis that could potentially be in the gametes but the subsequent combining of those gametes during fertilization. So we have 10 million sperm in each “you know”, each carrying their own different set of genes from the father and the 100,000 eggs that are in the mother, also with their own unique combination of genes.

Lets also look at the combinations of events that could also prevent you from even being born. Both your parents would have to be alive (obviously) along with every other member of your family in a direct parent-offspring relationship throughout your family tree. We also have to see the events in their lives that could have potentially made them impotent beforehand or dead or even have prevented them from meeting their partner.

I hope it's okay to place this query in R&S - several relatives in my extended family (on my mother's side - aunts, cousins and grandparents) as well as my mom, have experienced a lot of strange events, esp. in recent years.

Too many examples to provide here, but I will give you one: 2 years ago my cousin lost her mother to cancer and then her brother committed suicide 1 month later. Since then, she has moved into her mother's home (no one died there) and has heard noises coming out of what used to be her brother's room and has actually woken in the middle of the night to see her mother standing over her...this is just a very minor example of things that have happened and continue to happen in my extended family.

My question is this - is my family cursed? Why do some people experience so much spiritual/supernatural phenomena? It is my personal belief that these events are caused by demonic activity. What can be done to break this trend? Thanks for any help/advice you can give me

the prophecy isn't made and fulfilled in the Bible? I mean stuff that has happened recently that we can honestly say that the Bible told us was going to happen??

Please include Verse, Event, and a brief explanation of how the Verse predicts the event. And please no Bible codes - if God made a prophecy I would like to think he wouldn't try to hide it from us.

please I dont want everybody and their dog telling me your IQ is higher than 130, because only 2.1% of all people have an IQ higher than 130. No matter what online tests say, you are more than likely not as smart as Albert Einstein.

I am, of course, and have always been an atheist.I have repeatedly said that in my opinion the idea of a personal God is a childlike one. During the youthful period of mankind's spiritual evolution, human fantasy created gods in man's own image.

Atheists are frequently accused of being exceptionally prideful. I'm inclined to think of myself as being humble in accepting that which is obviously true as my only choice of reality.

Assuming that the Catholic Church was always so ritualized the way it is today i.e. candles, incense, one way to do mass etc. When did the protestants stop doing stuff like that and why?

Catholicism has gotten quite the bad reputation because of a large number of Priests -- though they are statistically quite rare -- that have been found to be pedophiles.

Common belief (which is quite unfounded, of course) is that this problem is because of the Catholic sect itself. I believe that manner of thinking is backwards.

My thinking is that these men actually joined the priesthood because they already had these compulsions and were repulsed by them. Becoming a Catholic Priest was their attempt to escape their desires, but, for whatever reason, were not able to.

What are your thoughts?

I have heard you refer to the book of mormon as another gospel of Jesus Christ in your commercials. As I understand it Moroni, an angel, appeared to Joseph Smith and led him to the golden plates. The Bible in Galatians seems to warn against this. What is your response?

Gal 1:8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.
Gal 1:9 As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.

all I hear is '' because the bible says it's right or wrong'' or this passage on this chapter says this. do you honestly think that just by saying '' jesus you died for me'' going to church every sunday and giving %10 of your paycheck to a profit motive churches you're going to go straight to heaven? I don't think so. there's more to it than that. God doesn't prefer christians over muslims or pagans
