Do ANYTHING without human intervention?

If it's gods will to cure the sick, why does he choose to do it through doctors, instead of faith alone?

If god's will is for his church to have power, water, and telephone service, why does he need electricity, water, and phone service from human run utility companies?

If god meant for the whole world to know about him, why does he need people to tell other people about him?

If god wants to forgive you for your sins, why does he need to have his "son" be killed by humans?

Why can't god do any of this stuff WITHOUT human intervention? Is he powerless to do so, or is he too lazy to do so? Or does he just not care?

No, I don't believe in any gods, I've done the research and know that god is pure speculation, and nothing more. I'm just interested in the stories religious people tell themselves to reconcile the reality of these things with the theology they've been taught. Please, feel free to share your thoughts.

Out of everyone who has come and gone from the R&S community, who do you miss the most?

And who would you like to see make a comeback?

To keep it in category, what religion (or lack thereof) are you?

why would he allow me to live through rheumatic fever at age 11, when (in theory) he knew I'd grow-up to be an atheist? If I had died then, while I was still a christian, I'd be heaven right now, right? But instead it was his plan for me to live and turn into an atheist, so I can instead go to hell. I guess he wanted to give my seat to someone else, huh? Can you explain zat?

I just found out it is on Good Friday. It is a day of fasting and remembering of when Jesus died on the cross for us.

But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.
Mark 13:32

Jesus answered, If I honour myself, my honour is nothing: it is my Father that honoureth me; of whom ye say, that he is your God:

In honor of Red Queen and so many others on here who have seen good people either get deleted accounts or decide they can no longer tolerate the treatment on this forum.

I think that there has to be a fine line between freedom of expression and freedom from harrassment on here. People get offended and we truly use this forum as an example of the Cat-kicking world (someone gets us angry and we take it out on the next person and it spreads, ultimately to kicking the cat who never did anything to incur the anger).

So, I'm wondering if those of us who are regulars should set up our own code of conduct? If so, what can we do to eliminate the hurt feelings and the resulting excessive account deletions?

I'm not suggesting having a "R&S squad" that decides right and wrong, instead I'm suggesting voluntary standards we all agree to, so we can enjoy being here.

Your thoughts?

If it is built on laws, how did that happen with a Creator?

If theres no god, then are physical and mathematical laws that govern the universe just byproducts of their coincidental existences?

I vaguely remember hearing that if they had not sinned, they would still be running around naked in Eden.

If this is the case, why do children have absolutely no shame in running around naked?

*My neighbors small child was running around the house naked....I only wish I could do the same without worrying whether the blinds were open or not!

Upon doing some reading (following an accidental viewing of a few moments of one of the "Left Behind" movies), I've learned that Christians fear the idea of a religion that unites the entire world. In fact, they associate this concept with the anti-christ and the end of time. Why?

If there were a "one true faith", wouldn't it most likely be unifying, something that all of mankind could come together under, instead of something that causes war and conflict?

Why is this idea so scary?

By the way -- I don't think there should be an established faith. I'm a big fan of freedom of religion. I just want to discuss why the idea of the whole world coming together, unified through a belief, should be so frightening. So don't get up in arms about freedom of religion, you're preaching to the choir!

The 10 Commandments can be described in this way????
(1) they are a CURB (they curb us from wanting to sin)
(2) they are a RULER (they help us to measure our lives against God's standard)
(3) they are a MIRROR (they help us to see the path of sin, and how to avoid it).
What do you think? As we ponder these truths, does it help us to keep on the right path?

The stars are pleased for the will of the night,
Refrain from idle hands playing tunes of the blind
I string a sheet with beads of blood
I have tasted something new , so
As I have layn and bled in this damp bed
Too long
Id rather sleep on the floor
Wait perhaps I could find a way to
Sleep under the stars
For the stars have spoken to me through
Shut curtains, when I gasped for breath
For upon opening the window would there be fresh air …
I never dared to for fear of fear,
Why must I stay here when my true place is beneath the open sky
Where the air is plentiful
Why must I forsake my self and wait for the tide
To wash away this sand
I think ill find a way ……
