When something bad happens in our lives, we say that it was because of some divine force interveining. Example: someone doesn't get a promotion at work, "It wasn't in the cards for me right now." or "God didn't want that to happen".

Something great happens in life and it's a result of your own hard work and determination. Example, someone DOES get a promotion at work. "I worked hard for this!".

I know not ALL people are like that but the few that are just make everyone look so incredibly hypocritical! I blame myself for everything that happens in my life.

I am christian myself, but I know why I am christian and I do believe in evolution and some other scientific theories. (this does not make me any less christian)

I have always noticed that so many christians can't defend their beliefs at all. They will say that evolution does not exist, dinosaurs never existed ect. It seems like by explaining themselves they are digging a bigger hole and just make others look bad.
So many people make generalizations about religious people based on what they hear, isnt it important to be able to explain yourself?

This is just a quick question, so if you want to be mad go ahead, it won't make me mad because you can't hurt me. But i would prefer civility as i am trying to be civil to you.

I as a Christian enjoy looking at every worldview i can get my hands on; i study them and eat them up! :) Like Francis Schaeffer i am coming to realization that there are only "a few men left in the room," and most worldviews can be fit into one of two "big worldviews." I have been thinking recently about the ever-famous "meaning/purpose" of life, and i have been trying to puzzle out what atheists think of it. As far as i can tell, there can be no all-consuming purpose for life or existence, as there is in Christianity, but only a miriad of choices that atheists pick and choose from. Among them are these:

-biological continuity
-personal happiness
-impact on humanity

Is there anything i am missing? What do you think is the meaning/purpose of life, personally? I would appreciate your input. :)

What will happen when these men die, but no new anointed ones are available to serve? Have there been talks in this regards? How many "annointed" ones are in the Jehovah's Witness religion today?

If everlasting life or re-incarnation or heaven or hell wasn't a part of your religion, but everything else was true.

1) Would you still bother with it?

2) How would you conduct your life then?

I think that many of us are inclined to cry wolf and say that critics of the LDS Church are "Anti-Mormon" and "spreading lies" about the Church to defame us, when often, such criticisms are not only based in truth, but motivated by a desire to "help us."

In my years of studying the history and doctrinal breadth of our Church (one of my passions), I have come to the realization that there is simply too much history and doctrine for any one person to know, and that the Church selectively chooses to teach us that doctrine and history which is most vital and most relevant to our salvation, not to mention the most faith-promoting. In the shuffle, there is a lot of doctrine and history that tends to go unmentioned in the Sunday School manuals, the Ensign magazines, and the General Conference talks. Since the internet wasn't around 50 years ago, a lot is missing from lds.org as well.

I think it's impossible to validly argue for both at the same time.

I'm talking about evolution from the universe's 'Big Bang' to the point we are at right now. If the universe was created from nothingness, stars were born, the Earth was formed, life popped out of nowhere, 1-celled organisms mutated into complex beings, and humans eventually became what they are today, where do ghosts fit into the equation?

Evolution is based upon, what evolutionists call, 'hard facts', but how could these hard facts explain the origin, creation, and existence of beings without physical bodies?

we have this spirit in our house, i wont call it a ghost or a haunting because its not scary, sometimes it throws little objects around,, like lego parts at the kids, gently i might add,it tossed a loaf of bread at my wife while we were in the kitchen on night, hit her in the bac when we leave the house i will test this spirit and leave all the room doors open and when we get back they are all closed, all the kitchen cabinets are wide open in the morning, our bed shakes at night and wakes us up, my wife goes can you feel the bed shaking and i say yes, i have awakened many times and found this spirit just staring at us in bed then i reach out and it goes away, in the morning sometimes there is the name rita written on the inside of our windows, its not any of our hand writing,, and there is the smell of cigarette smoke in the house, we are non smokers and there are vacant lots around our house, kind of freaks my wife out but i am not bothered at all, doesnt scare me, what would you all

Anything goes.

Me? I'd like to be cremated/burned. That's mostly because if I'm simply mistaken for being dead and am not really, I'd rather receive a few minutes of blinding pain than a much longer time slowly suffocating and going out of my mind.

(Deistic agnostic)
