Do you know? Thats a very good question. A lot of believers i know fear death because they are afraid they did wong in life and worry about the consequences. I'm a non believer, and although i really don't like the idea of dying, it isn't through fear of what will happen if ive been a bad girl., because i know i have. If some of the teachings are right and we're meant to make mistakes in order to evolve then i've made so many i MUST be going somewhere good!!!

I believe any sane person is afraid of death. Add to that the fact that there are so many sins that can be committed, that its nearly impossible for any normal person to get into heaven, and there you have it. Hell is for sinners my friend, not non believers. And there are more sinners in the church then out of it. So thats why they're afraid.

Just because you believe in Heaven doesn't mean that you are going there when you die. I believe in heaven, but am not totally sure I will be forgiven for all my sins, or that I have lived a good enough life to go to heaven, that is why I believe in Heaven, but am afraid to die.

I think it's the same for believers and non believers. It's the fear of the unknown. Our brains can't accept the thought of not existing any more so they go in to over drive and generates a feeling of fear.

Only a liar would say that they welcome death and the uncertainty that awaits them and only a fool would swear on faith that they were 100% certain that they were going to walk in paradise.

Who told you the non believers go to hell,
because that is not true, some people are the nicest people, you could meet and are atheist.
I have known atheist, who are kind, sympathetic, and very caring, really good people. Do you think a loving God would send these good people to hell, I don't.

i think most people are afraid of death because they are afraid of leaving everything they know and love not because of heaven or hell- i think most people in general are afraid of death because no one knows how its going to feel until it actually happens and then its too late to describe

Believers will also go to "hell" (The place for the dead).

“[Job prayed:] Who will grant me this, that thou mayst protect me in hell, and hide me till thy wrath pass, and appoint me a time when thou wilt remember me?” (Job 14:13)

But the Bible also tells us that the dead are conscience of nothing, and therefore feel no pain, so how is hell a place of torment? It isn't.

“The living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all . . . All that your hand finds to do, do with your very power, for there is no work nor devising nor knowledge nor wisdom in Sheol, the place to which you are going.” (Eccl. 9:5, 10)

"Sheol" translates too "the grave" or "the world of the dead".
