Jesus never "lived" in Jerusalem, he only traveled through it on his teaching trips.
He was born in Bethlehem south of Jerusalem, raised in Nazareth, in northern Galilee, and then appears to have resided in Capernaum, a town on the northwest shore of the Sea of Galilee as an adult.
Did he know about Polar Bears? As the divine and eternal God, he knew about everything.

God knows everything, so does Jesus. If Jesus knew everything, He definately would have known about polar bears. Besides, Jesus was with God when He was making the Earth.
Genesis 1:26 And God said, Let US make man in OUR image, after OUR likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

The total knowledge of all the universe dwells within all of us,
Jesus having been an enlightened spiritual being would have known about all the physical realm.

He was fully human when He was here and He was also fully God. He made everything. So He knew everything. It was not His job here to do other things than He came to do. The same thing for us, every call is not our call. God has a special plan for all of us. : )
