hi
I have been a member of my church for 4 years. I have been extremely active in my church and I attend regularly. I've also talked to leadership about what I perceive the problems to be are, and they are in complete agreement with me, and they are equally frustrated. Essentially the church is very immature and very self-absorbed. nobody interacts with people outside of church, and they don't interact with people outside their own family when they are AT church. Most people don't look at each other in the eye and they rarely connect with each other. People don't socialize before and after church like they do at most churches. I stand in the back andd i watch, and I stay pretty much until I"m one of the last ones there. I talk to everyone. People pretty much make a bee line for the door. If they have a social or someting like that, almost nobody comes, and the ones that come only communicate with thier own family. The problem for me, is how long do I keep trying and trying

Copernicus made us face the probability that we are but a speck in the universe.

Darwin made us question whether we slithered up from the swamps rather got instantly placed here in final-form by the hand of God.

Freud made us ask ourselves whether we are totally motivated by our conscious thoughts.

So what religious revolution has made most of us change our self-view of mankind?

I want my son to decide for himself what feels right for him, spiritually.

What would you do if your beloved child came to you and said that the bible is the literal 'word of god'?

For all my postulating about giving our children choices, I wonder what would I do if he decided to be a fundamentalist Christian. I shudder to think of that possibility but I wonder what would I do.

I am sorry but I would have a serious discussion with my son and I would lay out all the contradictions found in the bible and appeal to his common sense.

I would love him no matter what but I would have serious doubts about his intelligence if he became a fundie.

Now let me specify that I don't think that all Christians are ignorant fundies. I know that MOST Christians are good, loving people who are capable of independent thought. I can agree to disagree and feel love and respect for many.

Matthew 27:9-10
Then was fulfilled what has been spoken by the prophet Jeremiah, saying “And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him on whom a price has been said by some of the sons of Israel, and they gave them for the potter’s field, as the Lord directed me.”

The problem with this passage is that nowhere in Jeremiah can this prophecy be found. Instead it is found in the book of Zechariah.

Zechariah 11:12-13
And I said unto them, If ye think good, give me my price; and if not, forbear. So they weighed for my price thirty pieces of silver. And the LORD said unto me, Cast it unto the potter...

Did the author of Matthew make a mistake?

I'm starting to finally get some wisdom with my years. I have discovered (alert the media) that sometimes having patience along with praying makes all the difference in the world, because God works in His own time. Anyone care to share a positive experience that was a result of having patience?

I noticed a lot of people have asked on here if Jesus would vote Dem or Rep and the answers are usually he's an obvious liberal who cares for the poor. The only counter has been that Jesus wouldn't vote. I have yet to see someone say he'd be in the GOP. So let's turn it around, would Republicans vote for Jesus since he clearly said we should reject the rich and self-righteous religious leaders?

God created them as two seperate sexes BEFORE THE FALL.

It looks like the Christian notion of their not being "male and females" in Paradise will have to be changed by the Church soon.

It can be shot down by real scripture and theological facts.

CHEROKEE CREATION STORY

When the Earth begun there was just water. All the animals lived above it and the sky was beginning to become crowded. They were all curious about what was beneath the water and one day Dayuni'si, the water beetle, volunteered to explore it.

He went everywhere across the surface but he couldn't find any solid ground. He then dived below the surface to the bottom and all he found was mud.

This began to enlarge in size and spread outwards until it became the Earth as we know it.

After all this had happened, one of the animals attached this new land to the sky with four strings.

Just after the Earth was formed, it was flat and soft so the animals decided to send a bird down to see if it had dried. They eventually returned to the animals with a result.

The land was still to wet so they sent the great Buzzard from Galun'lati to prepare it for them.

The buzzard flew down and by the time that he reached the Cherokee land he was so tired that his wings began to hit the ground. Wherever they hit the ground a mountain or valley formed. The Cherokee land still remains the same today with all the land forms that the Buzzard formed.

The animals then decided that it was too dark, so they made the sun and put it on the path in which it still runs today.

The animals could then admire the newly created Earth around them.

In YA News today, I read an article of a fisherman in Indonesia who caught a large fish, whose fossil records date back 360 million years ago. Most scientists thought that the fish had become extinct with the dinosaurs, but here we are. It is interesting to note, in a period of over 360 million years the Coalacanth has remained a Coalacanth, and not evolved into lets say, a vermicious knid...what's up with that? How can this be? Is evolution selective? Why no evolution for some species, yet for others they are like Transformers? Kisses!!!!
